The first branded Thomson smartphone is going to be launched at IFA in Berlin at the end of August. As a holder of a large display, it is to compete with Samsung Galaxy Note II. Unfortunately, probably it will lose...
And all because of not a very sophisticated specification. Its manufacturer, China's TCL - the current owner of the brand once popular in Europe - apparently decided that to succeed in the market it's enouhg to have a big screen. I'm afraid not ... The advantage of X-View 2 will be also ability to operate with two SIM cards. Agreed - but it can be found in most of the Chinese smartphone ... Thomson's model will not attract buyers with its single core Cortex A9 processor with 1 GHz clock, 512 MB of memory will not help it as well. The screen resolution of a 5.3-inch display is only 800x480 pixels. A 5-megapixel rear camera and front VGA cam look slightly better, especially when we learn that the microSD card slot accepts media up to 32 GB. Speaking of memory, I suspect that the manufacturer's data contains an error. According to them, a built-in memory capacity, which will be available to you without using external cards is 512 MB. Don't you think that it is too little? A pre-installed Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is a kind of a consolation.
I dare to suspect that we are dealing with a typical Chinese smartphone, officially labeled with a recognised brand. I do not think this model could do any harm to the big Samsung phones - but as usual, the price will determine everything. If Thomson reasonably prices its product, it may find a large group of buyers who accept the obvious shortcomings of X-View 2.
