I haven't written about the new iPhone for a long time ;) - so it's time for another leak. It comes from ETrade Supply, which is among others a supplier of digitizers. The glass display, which reportedly will go to the new Apple smartphone, was taken under the microscope.

The measurement results seem to confirm everything we have ever known. The new iPhone will have a bigger screen and slightly better housing, but with unchanged width. By measuring the "display window", it was found that it will be about 4.065 inches. New glass, made from the newest varieties of Corning Gorilla Glass will be about 0.1 mm thinner than the previous one. You can see that the spaces above and below the screen have been reduced in size. The position of the camera hole and light sensor hole was replaced, which allowed to narrow the whole panel not to lengthen the body unnecessarily. The same was done in the lower part, reducing the diameter of the main button of 0.3 mm. This allowed to reduce the lower panel from 18 to 15.4 mm. All these treatments aimed to reduce the "dead" area of the front panel, so that despite the extension of the display, the smartphone was as small as possible. I ventured on my own calculations. Assuming that the part above and below the display are - as it is clear from the picture - about the same height 15.4 mm, the new iPhone will measure approximately 121 mm. It would therefore be higher than the 4S by about 8 mm - provided of course that at ETrade Supply there was measured the element that actually will go to the new model. I measure and measure ... but I'm still not convinced that iPhone users really need a bigger screen ...
