In sunny California, there was held the Apple's annual developer conference, WWDC. Here is the short, telegraphic summary.
The WWDC star was the new iPad Pro. The tablet has a 12.9- or 10.5-inch screen with a brightness of 600 nits, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a wide colour palette for HDR content. The iPad Pro works with Apple Pencil - with less than 20 ms delay, it also has the ability to attach a hardware keyboard. The device uses a six-core A10X Fusion processor that delivers 30% better performance than its predecessor and 40% faster graphics processing. The iPad Pro also has a battery life of up to 10 hours and a new 7-megapixel FaceTime camera with screen illumination. The rear camera, like the front, was taken over from the iPhone 7 - it has 12 megapixels and optical stabilization. All this complements the new range of covers. The iPad Pro 10.5 will be available with 64, 256 or 512 GB memory, priced at $ 649, $ 749 and $ 949, respectively, while the 12.9 inch Pro models will cost $ 799, $ 899 and $ 1099, respectively.
Apple also showed an interesting HomePod loudspeaker. In a bundle-like casing, there are seven small speakers, giving the impression of omnidirectional sound. Each speaker has a dedicated control knob and for the lowest bass is responsible a single, ventilated bass speaker. The loudspeaker is able to recognize its position in the room and adjust the sound so as to preserve its spatiality. All is managed by the Apple A8 processor, and the equipment is complemented by a team of 6 microphones and the integration with Siri. In addition to music playback, the speaker will also allow you to control smart home devices, receive phone notifications, send messages, and so on. The speaker's price will be $ 349 - it will be available in December in the US, UK and Australia.
The new system brings quite a number of modifications. iMessage will allow you to synchronize conversations between devices, and will also enable Apple Pay transfer between service users. Backup and image files will be smaller, and Siri will support "on the fly" translation. The Apple Assistant will also be integrated with third-party applications, and will also analyze phone scenarios and screen images - to provide more relevant suggestions. Another change will be noted in the "Command Center" where 3D Touch support and new graphics will appear.
In the iOS there will also debut "Car Mode" (to prevent distracting the driver), there will also be a new Home Kit, equipped with the multiroom sound system, there will also change the layout of the App Store. The store will have a modern look, and even animations, showing the application. AR Kit has also been announced, an application for generating virtual reality objects. This is a development release, but the application allows you to easily create an AR and VR content using the current generation of iPhone and iPad.
Apple has introduced a new system for smartwatches - watchOS 4. It introduced new shields, a new music player and improved fitness application and integration with them. Among the new shields - Kaleidoscope, Toy Story and Siri, the most interesting is the latter, which provides the assistant with an alert on the dial. Workout now supports swimming and can automatically set goals. There was added the support for external fitness equipment using NFC. The last significant improvement is to allow more applications to run in the background.
