Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL officially listed

Google today officially announced the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, the Pixelbook laptop, and new solutions for Google's assistant and smart home.

As expected, Google has unveiled two models that differ in size. Pixel 2 (from HTC) has a 5 inch screen, Pixel 2 XL (from LG) - 6 inches. Smartphones share a great deal of specs. They have metal enclosures that meet IP67 certification requirements, stereo speakers and fingerprint readers at the back.

Pixelu 2 has FullHD OLED display, Pixel 2 XL - POLED with QHD+ resolution and 18: 9 aspect ratio. Both screens are optimized for virtual reality and are "Daydream-ready". Pixel 2 features a 2.35 GHz Snapdragon 835 processor, integrated with the Adreno 540 graphics and 4 GB of RAM LPDDR4X. Smartphones receive 64 or 128 GB of internal memory, but they differ with the battery capacity which is 2700 vs 3520 mAh.

Pixels work with Android Oreo, enriched with Always-On-Display and a host of smart features - such as music recognition, Google Lens image recognition, expanded reality, and more. This time it is used to launch Google Assistant.

In the field of photography, Pixels made it to the top with 98 points in the DxO ranking. The cameras have 12-megapixel 1/2.6-inch matrices, Dual-Pixel autofocus and f/1.8 lenses, of course with optical stabilization. Front cameras are more "mundane" - 8-megapixel. Smartphones do not have a mini jack, but they have a USB-C port. Pixel 2 comes in three colours, Pixel 2 XL in two. Pixel 2 with 64 GB memory costs $ 649, and 128 GB - $ 749. Pixel 2 XL was priced at $ 849 and $ 949, respectively. Telephones will be available in Australia, Canada, Germany, India, United Kingdom, USA, and a little later in Italy, Singapore and Spain.

The novelty is also the new Chromebook model, called the Pixelbook. The computer is a centimeter thick and weighs a kilogram. It has a reversible 12.3-inch QHD screen, it can have a Core i5 or i7 processor, up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of SSD. A Chrome OS computer can run on battery for up to 10 hours and offers a stylus support. Pixelbook prices start at $ 999, and the stylus costs $ 99.

Pixel Buds headphones have also been added to the premiere offer. It is an in-ear model, but wireless (Bluetooth), with rather sporty styling. Headphones offer excellent sound and intuitive handling, but the most important reason to spend $ 159 on would be ... the translator. Headphones have the ability to translate words "on the fly" in 40 languages. The presentation shows that it really works. We are talking to the headphones and the translated words come from the phone connected to them. The speacer dictates to the phone, and we in turn hear the translated answers. Like a trifle - but it can affect the decision to buy.

New speakers for Google Assistant were also introduced. The miniature Google Home Mini costs $ 49, is available in three colours and offers similar capabilities as its larger cousin, Google Home. The Google Home Max model is a much larger speaker that offers good sound quality, streaming music and tandem capabilities with the same device - in stereo. But it's more expensive equipment - for $ 399. Also featured is the new incarnation of the Daydream View goggles with new lenses and an improved housing, as well as the Google Clips webcam, attached to the clothes.
