Sound
When it comes to the sound, LG will not disappoint its fans – just like in many other smartphones, we can find a 32-bit digital-analogue Hi-Fi Quad DAC converter in LG G8X ThinQ, stereo speaker (the external speaker on the lower edge supports the receiver) and a universal jack, which is often absent in most flagships of the competition. The first element provides a great sound quality while listening to music through earphones, but the smartphone sounds equally good when we will choose stereo speakers. They are loud and clear and the sound has depths, though it could benefit from a more bass. However, if we consider the sound when it comes to smartphone categories, this is a high shelf.

Photos and video
LG G8X ThinQ has two cameras – this is a rather modest number for contemporary flagships. The main camera has 12 megapixels, a standard f/1.8 lens and 78 degrees angle. Dual Pixel PDAF is responsible for focusing, there is an optical image stabilization as well. The second unit is a 13-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 wide angle 136 degrees lens. We will not find here neither OIS nor PDAF – it has a locked focus. In flagships of the competition we will usually find an additional camera, most often a telephoto one – if an optical zoom is necessary for you, LG G8X ThinQ will not fulfill your expectations.
I like photos from the main camera, and the ones from the wide angle I like slightly less. Photos have a high level of details, colours are natural and not oversaturated and have a good tonal range, what is more, the white balance is adjusted appropriately almost every time. The wide angle provides photos with a slightly lower level of details (especially close to corners of the shot), with different white balance and sometimes noticeable distortions of the image. In good lighting those are still good photos, but during the night it is best to stick with the main camera. Though night time photos will still disappoint you – it is far from what can be offered by Huawei flagships. They have natural colours, but the level of details is not great, it is best to avoid street lamps and after taking a shot verify whether the camera adjusted the white balance appropriately.
Here are the photos taken with the standard and wide angle lenses:

The camera app offers numerous functions and settings, for example automatic scenery recognition, manual mode, night mode or HDR. There are colour filters, we can easily switch between the main and the wide-angle lens and there is Google Lens for recognizing objects in the shot.

LG G8X ThinQ enables recording in the maximum quality of 40K 60fps, but it is best (taking the work of the stabilization) to use it in the standard Full HD 30 fps quality. It offers a good level of details and it deals with adjusting the focus. It is worth mentioning about the ASMR mode, which enhances the sensitivity of microphones – thanks to this, we can record the quietest sounds, like a whisper.
A 32-megapixel f/1.9 lens camera is responsible for selfies. It uses the QuadBayer technology and it connects four neighbouring pixels into one, which in effect are 8MP photos. And when it comes to the quality selfies are simply average. The camera has a tendency for overexposing the sky and it unnaturally blurs the background in photos with the bokeh effect.
