During the opening conference of the Samsung Developer Conference 2018 in San Francisco, the Korean company presented its new interface - One UI.
One UI is a new Android overlay that will replace the previous Experience. The interface was designed for phones equipped with large screens. One UI is to be decidedly more user-friendly than the current interface. Many key elements have been redesigned, with particular emphasis on simplifying terminology and moving between options.
The interface has been prepared in such a way that the operation is possible with one hand - even when the screen is quite large. A division into a functional part (with virtual buttons) and an information area - that is, "to watch" was adopted. This is shown on the example of the message. Once the list started from the top of the screen and when operating with one hand, it was difficult to "reach" the first message. Now - the list starts in the middle of the screen, and the content of the selected message is shown in the upper part. The rest of the interface has been redesigned in a similar way. The content that is to attract the user's attention at the moment is further emphasized.
One UI features simple graphics, there are also new icons and the possibility of matching the subject to the colour of the phone's casing. One UI will be available for beta-testers from November - in Korea, the USA and Germany, and the commercial start of the interface is scheduled for January 2019.
