Huawei showed in Barcelona, as last year, three ultrabooks from the MateBook series. About the fact that the series is known and liked, it provides over 100 million. devices sold.
The most powerful, the most anticipated
Among the presented novelties was MateBook X Pro, MateBook 13 and MateBook 14. As you can guess, the individual numbers next to the names suggest the size of the displays.
Probably the most-anticipated was the successor of the previous flagship - MateBook X Pro. It received a better processor, faster WiFi and Bluetooth, intelligent connectivity options, as well as a display with a screen-to-body ratio of 91%. The touch screen with a resolution of 3000x2000 pixels with 260 ppi and a contrast ratio of 1500: 1 has a 3: 2 aspect ratio that is comfortable to work with text and supports gestures.
The screen shot can be done with a simple gesture, and the system is able to use the intelligent OCR software to change the text placed on it from the graphic to the text format. We will find here the same as in the predecessor webcam hidden in the row of function buttons. - It is thanks to this solution that the device has such a good StBR ratio.
The unibody metal casing has a thickness of 14.6 mm and the laptop weighs only 1.33 kg. On sale it will appear in silver and gray. - Like in the predecessor and here the power button is also a fingerprint reader, although it is worth mentioning that the software supporting it got the next version number. The Intel i7 8565u processor and the Geforce GXA250 graphics are responsible for the performance of the chip. Two most important wireless interfaces have been accelerated. Bluetooth is available here in version 5.0, and we will send data via WiFi at a maximum speed of 1733 Mb/s. In turn, among available sockets we find a full-size USB, USB-C and 3.5 mm audio jack.
Intelligent cooling, which dissipates heat with 20% more efficiency than in the previous version of the ultrabook, will also contribute to the efficiency of the device. The 54 Wh battery will allow an average of 13 hours of watching video, 14 hours of office work, 12 hours of browsing and working on the Internet. The 4 MateBook X Pro speakers are not just for a show. The quality of music is noteworthy, and the Dolby Atmos service probably also contributes to this.
When writing about Huawei MateBook X Pro, it's impossible not to mention Huawei Share OneHop - an interface that is part of Huawei Share 3.0, which transfers the communication between EMUI and Windows to a slightly different level. In practice: after a single pairing of devices by NFC, all you need to do is to bring them together automatically, using the WiFi, to send the contents of the active window from the MateBook to the smartphone or vice versa. This way you can treat graphics, photos, screenshots, text, but also playback video or live camera image. The text in the graphics is of course recognized on the laptop and can be converted to a text file.
Thirteen is not unlucky at all
Matebook 13 is primarily a 13-inch display with a resolution of 2160x1440 pixels with a contrast ratio of 1000: 1 and a StBR ratio of 88%. Lower than its predecessor, the coefficient results from the fact that the camera of this ultrabook has been placed classically on the frame above the screen. Both the touch screen version and the gray and silver colour will be available for sale. Both will be equipped with a filter of harmful blue light. The thickness of the housing is 14.9 mm, and the construction weighs 1.28 kg. On the sides of the keyboard you will find two USB-C sockets, an audio jack, while other useful connectors will be on the dock attached to the set. In addition to the standard screen and colour, the user will also be able to select a configuration including the processor and memory. In stores Matebook 13 will be with Intel i7 8565u with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB disk or with Intel i5 8265, 8 GB RAM and 265 GB disk.
Two large and quiet fans thanks to the system noise-canceling will ensure cooling and for sound impressions are responsible two speakers from Dolby Atmos. After a single charge, the ultrabook should allow you to watch video for up to 10 hours. The box has a 65 W charger. Matebook 13 also supports OneHop.
Matebook 14 - somewhere in between
The last ultrabook presented can be placed technologically somewhere between the first two. The display operates at a resolution of 2160x1440 pixels in the aspect of 3: 2. The system has a StBR factor of 90%. The touch screen with a blue light filter is additionally protected with Corning Gorilla glass. The housing is of course metal, aluminum, in two colours: gray and silver. Comfortable operation, when you do not want to touch the screen, should provide a relatively large touchpad. A switch that fully protects the function of the fingerprint reader.
The heart of the system is the Intel i7 8565u. One of the USB-C sockets installed in the housing offers the standard 2.0, the second - 3.0. In addition to them, we find here an HDMI connector and a full-size USB. A battery with a 65-watt charger should last for 15 hours of watching video, 14 hours of office work or 10.5 hours of Internet usage. In Matebook 14, Huawei Share 3.0 technologies from OneHop and Dolby Atmos were implemented in a similar way as in previous versions.
