System and applications
The reviewed smartphone works under a relatively fresh Android in the 8.0 version with security updates from the 1st of March 2018. Of course Huawei has installed its EMUI add-on in the 8.0 version. It will not appeal to those who like the pure Android, because it greatly changes the user’s interaction with the system, it greatly changes the software and it adds a lot of functions that we will not find in the pure version of the system. It is worth adding that P Smart can be found among recommended for the Android Enterprise program. It means that it will receive security updates every three months for at least three years. This is a long-term support for this model from Huawei.

So what additional functions are added by the EMUI interface that are not in the pure version of the system? For example we just need to move the finger down along an empty space on the main desktop in order to run a browser. We can use the main screen with or without apps’ menu, we can change the resolution, run the one-handed mode in a simple way, use gestures (for example double-tapping the screen in order to wake it up), use a floating button and select the order of buttons on the navigation bar. There is a lot of personalization options and simple and eye protection modes (the blue light filter).
It is worth mentioning about security and privacy options. First of all we have a fingerprint scanner, which is fast and reliable. It can be used not only for unlocking the screen but for taking a photo, stopping an alarm or moving interface elements. Second of all there is facial recognition, which is less reliable than the fingerprint scanner, still we can use it to unlock the display or show notifications on the lock screen. In addition the user can use functions like app lock and files locker.

I talked about good sides of the interface, but it has its flaws. The abundance of preinstalled apps is one thing, but sometimes the smartphone lags. Occasionally, after running an app the interface blocked for a moment, and sometimes after turning the camera on we could only see a black screen with the camera interface, but no image from the camera itself. I do not know which caused this, but maybe this is a feature of this particular device and an update will fix this.
