A good smartphone for a good price

Packaging and accessories

The set of accessories is a basic one – besides a paper manual we will find only the 1A charger, USB-microUSB cable and a tool for opening the SIM card tray. The cable and the charger are in the white colour.

Housing and display

When it comes to visual, this model – in my opinion – remains neutral. If I had walked pass by it I suspect that I would not have pay any attention to it. It cannot distinguish itself neither by anything positive nor negative, and the materials used – 100% plastic – clearly indicate that we are dealing with a lower shelf device. Which is not a flaw, most phones from this segment are made out of plastic and have a rather predictable design. The fact that the device is lightweight, elements are well-fitted and we cannot see fingerprints on the grey housing (contrary to the display) is an advantage.

The front is dominated by a 5.5-inch HD display, surrounded with a rather narrow bezels on sides and rather wide at the top and at the bottom. The upper frame is occupied by the speaker for calls, the front camera, sensors and the manufacturers logo, while on the lower one there are three touch fields with barely visible markings – unfortunately without a backlight. But let us return to what is between bezels, that is the display. The manufacturer has equipped the Neffos C7 model with a 5.5-inch 720x1280 pixels screen with a traditional 16:9 ratio (the more fashionable 18:9 has not reached the lower shelf yet, but it will probably happen sooner or later). I have no concerns towards it apart from one – the resolution should have been slightly higher. The density is on the level of 267 ppi, and this is below the level with which the human eye cannot distinguish single pixels.

In the settings we will not find the possibility to control the parameters of displayed image, there is only the eye-protection mode and brightness functions. The maximum one is on a high level – the image is visible even in the full sunlight – while the minimum one does not hurt our eyes while using the smartphone at night. The front of the phone is covered with a 2.5D glass layer, which offers a good slide for fingers and adds points for the looks.

Edges of the phone have elements typical for smartphones. On the upper one there is the universal jack, while on the lower one there is a centrally placed microUSB socket and two rows of holes, from which the right one hides the external speaker, while the left one – the microphone’s hole. On the left we will find a tray for SIM/microSD cards that can be removed using a needle or a paperclip, while on the right there are physical buttons for the volume control (in the form of a single bar) and a power/lock button. Buttons do not stand that high above the housing and we can feel that they are slightly loose, still there are no problems with feeling and clicking them.

The back panel is a layer of a grey, matte plastic, which does not catch fingerprints and it prevents the phone from slipping out of hands. In addition, the manufacturer has placed here a round fingerprint scanner, the main camera (it stands out slightly above the surface) along with the LED flash and a printed logo, markings and certificates. I will talk more about the camera later, but it is worth looking at the scanner – its presence in the budget shelf is slowly becoming a standard, and the one placed in Neffos turned out to be quite fast and accurate. It is supposed to unlock the display in 0.2 seconds – I do not know if it does it that fast, but it really is almost instant. Sometimes it happens that the scanner does not recognize the fingerprint at the first time. But such situation takes place in 1 case out of 10, so it is not a big deal.
