Interface, applications

I do not have any major concerns towards the interface. MIUI in the 9.5 version is a comfortable and a friendly add-on, which is based on Android 8.0. The looks of the interface is not far from classical Android, but it has a “flat” form – without a tray for apps. However, we can place icons on consecutive desktops freely and group them into folders. We can change transition effects between screens, automatically arrange icons and locking them in place according to our needs. Notifications section looks classically, just like the shortcuts panel, which we can of course edit.

There is a possibility to work on a divided screen (though turning it on is unnecessarily complicated – we need to tap the dividing icon and swipe the application window up), there is “Second Space” as well – a place for our “secret” or business apps.

There is a wide possibility of managing notifications and apps permissions, as well as app cloning (creating two different accounts under separate icons of the same app). We can decrease the screen to be used with one hand, there is additional widgets and shortcuts tray available after moving the main desktop right. The display can be woken up and locked with a double tap.

The interface is enriched with managing the notifications LED and configuring system buttons at the bottom of the screen. Besides changing their arrangement and auto hiding, we can ascribe them with additional functions for holding them longer and combining them with system buttons on the side of the housing. There is “Touch assistant” as well, that is an additional floating button, which doubles the work of system buttons.

Xiaomi did not exaggerated with additional apps, which is a plus. There is no bloatware – but the manufacturer added a few handy elements, like MiDrop for sharing files, a tool for reporting opinions and problems, a recorder and a files manager. Unfortunately there is no radio, but there is a possibility to record screen – that is creating a video showing everything that is happening on the screen – for example when we want to show somebody how an app works.

There is a useful business card, QR or documents scanner. Besides this we have classical elements, like a package from Google or additions like a calculator, compass or a notepad. The cherry at the top is the great app for managing the system – it can show notifications about deleting useless files, doubled photos or closing apps that unnecessarily drain the battery.
