HTC despite poor financial condition continues to develop innovative solutions for smartphones. The U.S. patent office received a request for a reservation of the Taiwanese company's new idea for a smartphone slider.
The idea is seemingly known: the part of the phone slides out to the side, creating additional space. We usually have seen on it the QWERTY keyboards, but HTC has proposed to replace the keys with an extra display. I can see with the eyes of imagination the large keypad shown on it, dual-display applications and games on both screens ... but from a concept to a completion the road is long and winding. The first problem that I see are the dimensions of the phone. It would be just quite thick, that at today's race towards the slimmest enclosures would be considered a step backwards. The second problem - it's the power. Already a 5-inch smartphone does not run too long. A dual-screen? Yes, there can always be added a larger battery - but then again it’s a simple way to increase the size and weight of a smartphone. Perhaps one of the screens could be energy-efficient e-ink as in Yota Phone? But that would spoil the overall solution effectiveness... It is also worth noting that the board of HTC, the last models do not sell best, may not be willing to take another market risk. Either way - I find the idea very interesting. Would you buy such a smartphone?
