LG not only has flexible displays, but is going, as Samsung and Motorola, to release a device with such displays later this year. There are plans for a 55-inch and 5-inch unbreakable OLED matrix.
We have already written about the fact that Samsung has revealed its ideas on the use of a flexible display showing a smartphone's prototype displaying information on the lateral edges. Apparently, however, the technology is still too expensive, or just a quick implementation is not possible, because so far neither in the carriers' offers nor in corporate stores appeared innovative solution from the Koreans.

Other manufacturers do not let the grass grow under their feet. During the conference, Display Week 2013, organized by the Society for Information Display, the Korean LG has decided to show off their own performance in terms of resistance to breakage of flexible OLED displays. The larger, 55-inch display will go on assembly lines of curved TVs and monitors, a 5-inch will be perfect for mobile devices, including smartphones.
In addition to flexible OLEDs, LG will also show the latest generation of TFT arrays.
A thin 5-inch OLED HD display will allow the production of smartphones, where finally the entire surface of the front panel will take up the display, without wide margins on the sides of the enclosure. If LG goes the path of Samsung, the sides of the casing can also be used. At the same time thinner and more fuel-efficient panels should make the device lighter and more energy efficient, which means less frequent charging.
LG will show at the conference several additional solutions, which however concern larger displays. We are left with the hope that this year we will be given to test the device with a flexible screen, because the race has started. Regardless of whether a smartphone will be manufactured by LG, Motorola, or Samsung - users will benefit in particular.
