Panasonic presented in Berlin its new and impressive tablet. This is not a device for a broad consumer market, but this equipment is so interesting that I decided to tell you about it.
Toughpad 4K is probably the world's first tablet with a 20-inch ultra-high 4K resolution display. As a representative of Panasonic, Hiro Sakamoto presented this equipment on stageI was impressed mostly, not so much with the dimensions of the tablet but extremely bright, saturated colours on the display.

I think that the resolution of 3840x2560 pixels considerably exceeds the needs of a typical user - but for professional applications (for architects, designers,...), it may be ideal. 4K is roughly two times more than full HD. Sakamoto said that it is the slimmest and lightest tablet in the world in size of 20 inches. It has a 12.5 mm thick and weighs 2.35 kg. A large part of the casing was covered with glass fiber, which gives strength and low weight, and at the same time a good styling.

But that's not all - Toughpad series is known for its high strength. Here it is the same: a 20-inch monster will withstand a fall on the screen or the back from a height of 76 cm, and dropped on a corner, it won't break down from 30 cm. Time for some technical things. In the middle of the tablet there is Intel Core i5, assisted by 4 or 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD and NVIDIA GeForce graphics. Everything under Windows 8.1. The screen has a 10-point multi-touch, and also allows you to operate with the stylus. It was made in the IPSalpha technology, giving better colour reproduction (sRGB ) while using less energy. Angles readability reaches 176 degrees. The screen has an unusual 15:6 aspect ratio... why? The size almost perfectly matches the size of A3, applied by many professionals.

Toughpad 4K may be accompanied by a special, advanced optical stylus that detects 2048 levels of pressure. The stylus uses Bluetooth, has two additional buttons, is self-powered, and even has a display. This is the equipment for professionals, hence the use of special optical sensor here to ensure the accuracy required for professional applications. There are three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI out, an SD card slot and an optional desktop cradle and mounting point adapter. Does the equipment have any disadvantages? Yes: two hours of work on one battery charge and a price in excess of 4.5 thousand eur. Well...
Toughpad 4K (UT - MB5 ) will be available in Europe from November.
