Phonebloks - beautiful dream of a phone made with blocks

Published:

I grew up together with the PC industry. The idea of a computer in which you could replace each component seemed to be brilliant. Today, things are changing too fast , and does the idea of the modular smartphone has a chance to be implemented?

The market must be saturated frequently enough with new processors, graphics cards, RAM memory modules, connectors and data transfer standards - all of which are strongly influenced with marketing, because "fresh foods " are often reheated dishes. After two years of computer use little can be replaced in it. It's enough that the type of sockets will change. Manufacturers ensure that, they push us wanted or unwanted novelties, and we have no choice but to accept it or unsubscribe from a vicious circle of consumption. Just after all, one can buy a small island in the Cayman Islands and live away from technology.

The mass market does not like competition. In particular, individual innovators who argue that the devices do not need to wear out as soon as we are convinced by corporations. In such a harsh climate, Dane, Dave Hakkens, proposes a concept that could revolutionize how we think about the "best smartphone". The one that we can match on our own. Upgrade in an easy way and replace components more efficiently. Have a look:

The concept is very simple, even already used in electronic educational kits for schools. On a defined base on there can be made an electronic circuit, which will act as a communication device. You can start with a simple phone, and gradually expand it to the full set of interfaces, the best processor and display to the optimal resolution for a user.

Phonebloks is unfortunately just a concept. It is difficult to expect that any producer may be interested in the project reducing the number of potential consumers. Today, a standard smartphone has two year warranty - later it should be broken so that you have to buy a new one. If the Dane's compilation was to be created, it would reduce the potential of the market, although manufacturers of individual components - blocks could still be winners. I want an Intel processor – here you are. Or maybe Samsung or Qualcomm - no problem. In the background there is the question of the appearance of such compilations. There would be needed a genius who would invent an attractive, aesthetic design of a whole.

Take a look at the concept, check out the author's website, for a moment imagine that you do not have to immediately spend the assets for an ideal smartphone, but you can submit it step by step. They do not have to wrangle with the incompetent service when you need to fix it. Try to round a little the edges of a case, because the device would not have to look that way. Dave Hakkens has a beautiful dream - I think it is worth popularizing and supporting the author with a good word.
