In the era of permanent surveillance the popularity of solutions to improve the security of communication is increasing. At MWC we saw the Blackphone smartphone, which was created from scratch to protect privacy. The American company FreedomPop chose a slightly different way, though, in principle it offers a similar solution.
FreedomPop specialists focused on the software itself, apparently recognizing that the buyer should be able to choose a number of devices on which it will operate. At the beginning there was implemented a security package on the platform of Samsung Galaxy SII. The design of the phone hasn't been changed, while it has been given a modified operating system that provides a higher than usual degree of confidentiality. The equipment now called Privacy Phone features 128-bit encryption of calls and messages sent via the Internet. All data can be transferred by a private VPN (virtual private network) masking the user's identity. Of course, such protection is not perfect and possible to break, but still much better than typical smartphones offer. Most important, however, is that the price of the FreedomPop solution makes it accessible even for the average private buyer. The Privacy Phone smartphone costs only $ 189 and we buy it without signing any contract with any network.
