Nokia and HTC are not doing so well lately. The current level of sales of the two companies is only a shadow of its former glory, and hopes to change the streak revive with each new model. This time it fell on Nokia X and HTC Desire 816. Both were ordered already in millions of pieces - but are there really reasons to rejoice?
Both companies trumpeted success. In China there were ordered more than one million units of Nokia X, the same amount of Desire 816 orders fell to HTC. The problem is that these are not real, paid orders, but only bookings. In China, both phones can be pre-ordered without bringing any down payment. So I am sure that a good portion of the complex bookings came from people who clicked "for fun", having no intention to purchase a phone. If I liked conspiracy theories (and I do not like...) I would even venture to say that most of the copies were ordered by people hired to do just that – so that the manufacturer could boast of good sales. But I prefer to think that free reservations is just a great incentive for customers, and most of them actually buy the phones, which a desire to purchase was expressed by clicking the magic button on the website. I highly wish both manufacturers actual one million sales, but I still have mixed feelings... if they don't fool us, presenting virtual trading results?
