Unlocking the bootloader in Xperia Z3 Compact results in a loss of photos’ quality – such information has been circling around websites for some time. Sony has confirmed this and also expanded this issue on Xperia Z3.
Through unlocking the bootloader, or rather the booting program, it is possible to use ROMs different than those proposed by the manufacturer. Sony officially enables to legally unlock the bootloader, because it values the openness.
An average user does not know what a bootloader is, and will not try to unlock it, but those, who would like to have more control over their devices will be definitely surprised that unlocking the booting program may negatively affect the quality of photos.
Almost instantly after the launch of Xperia Z3 Compact there have been reports that after interfering in the system something is happening with photos. Sony has confirmed that removing the blockade may result in lowering photos’ quality. Not only in these mentioned smartphones, but also in other Sony’s devices with the latest software versions available on the market. The reason may be uninstalling the advanced DRM protection, and the results would be the stop of noise reduction algorithm, which would be clearly visible when taking photos with a bad lightning.
Another additional effect of tinkering with the bootloader would be the lack of official Sony’s updates, but if someone is loading another ROM he is most often aware of that.
I am not a technological genius and maybe because of that I have absolutely no idea how removing the DRM protection could affect the noise reduction algorithm. One must be a complete fool to connect one to another, and I do not think any of Sony’s engineers is one. Other possibility is that DRMs were supposed to protect algorithms and prevent stealing. The lack of protection would then make the usage of the protected software unavailable. A kingdom for a person who can explain this.
For the time being we warn you: if you would like to have freedom and openness provided by the manufacturer – you will not have photos in a decent quality. If you want to take good photos – do not touch the bootloader.
