The Qualcomm Snapdragon processor family expanded with four new models. According to the manufacturer, Snapdragon chips 415, 425, 618 and 620 will move the use of multimedia and 4G LTE to new hights.
New chips have built-in modems Cat 7 LTE, offering download speeds up to 300 Mbps and upload up to 100 Mbps, as well as dual image signal (ISP) processors and FLAC support for high-quality audio.
The octa-core Snapdragon 620 brings Snapdragon premium tier capabilities to the Snapdragon 600 tier with brand new ARM Cortex-A72 CPUs and next-gen Qualcomm Adreno GPU. In addition to its high processing power, it provides excellent entertainment - video recording supports 4K and 2K displays, while the hexa-core variant will be renumbered Snapdragon 618. Qualcomm Technologies is also adding new members to its Snapdragon 400 tier. The new Snapdragon 425 processor has the same X8 LTE as the 620 and 618, complete with integrated Cat 7 modem. An additional element is the Qualcomm Hexagon application which has the ability to process low-power tasks without waking up the CPU cores, which has a major impact on energy efficiency. The Snapdragon 415 will be an affordable, 64-bit octa-core, allowing support of 720p displays and Cat 4 LTE.
For now, it has not been announced yet, to which smartphones will go new systems, but the cross-section of the new range indicates that they are both hi-end phones that those from lower price segments. We can expect the first devices with the new Snapdragons in the second half of this year.
