MediaTek will soon unveil the new processor from the family Helio 20. This will be the unit with up to ten cores - the additional two will play a supporting role for the other eight.
The processor, bearing the designation MT6797, will consist of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz, four Cortex-A57 2 GHz and two Cortex-A72 2.5 GHz. The main tasks will address the A53 cores, the A57 will run further as demand increases for computing power. At most demanding tasks there will join two "extra-curricular" A72 cores to provide an additional device performance. The processor will be supported by the ARM Mali-T880 MP4 700 MHz GPU, easily supporting screens with high resolutions and cameras with matrices bigger than 20 megapixels – even up to 25 megapixels. The processor can handle 4K video processing, it will also support Native3D 2.0 technology allowing for recording 3D images.

The system was adapted to operate with LPDDR3 993 MHz memory and LTE networks category 6. Helio 20 systems will be 64-bit and made in the technology of 20 nm. Their commercial availability is planned for the second half of this year, therefore, around November-December we can expect the first devices using them. In fact, a rash of 10-core smartphones will be likely during next year's CES and MWC...
