It's about the project of the back cover of Huawei Nexus 6P, which is according to some very similar to ZTE Athena (also known as the ZTE Grand S, or ZTE V988). The similarity actually exists, but it does not seem to be on purpose.
The scandal hasn't gone off there probably officially. It reflects on the event echoed in the Chinese social media. Semi-officially, as accusations come from a ZTE marketing employee and in discussions are involved representatives of both companies.
The storm probably will roll and die down. If they insist, one could also accuse ZTE of similar design inspiration of the back cover of Nokia 808 PureView and the prosecution would probably be equally eligible.
The case probably will not find finale in court, but disgust remains. Huawei and ZTE compete with each other not only on the local market and this type of event rather has an impact on the competition.
I made a quick visual comparison. Or am I wrong? Maybe I'm too tolerant, and Huawei actually committed plagiarism? It's not surprising that ZTE accuses of plagiarism, because out of the characteristic design of the module photographic they tried to make the hallmark of the family of smartphones. A similar design can be found in the Grand S Pro (below), or at the Grand S ext.
