Android N is fast approaching. We do not know yet its name (Nutella?), but we already know a few new features that will appear in it.
Cosmetic changes in the appearance of new icons and wallpapers - this is obvious. The first of the new wallpapers you can see in the picture opening this news. Appearance is not the most important. The most important new feature is the ability to open applications on a split screen - both on tablets and phones. What's more, there will also appear an option PictureInPicture – the application will be able to work in a small window on the background of another one.
The notifications will change as well. They will be grouped according to the application from which they come, and will be quicker to respond - responding directly from the notification bar, without leaving it. Grouped applications can be developed into a traditional list, using a two-finger gesture tweak or a dedicated button on the screen.
Android N also introduces support for Java 8 and new Doze options - the functions saving energy. The notifications management from the dormant applications will be improved, introducing a distinction between urgent and others. There will also be developed Project Svelte, aiming to ensure the smoothest possible operation of the system, even on weak devices.
