Two new smartwatches Gear S3 inspired by the look of traditional watches combine timeless design with the latest mobile technology, IP68 waterproof standard, mobile payments, LTE connectivity and a GPS module. The presentation of devices took place during the press conference preceding the official opening of the IFA in 2016.
Gear S3 Frontier is a watch for active people. The manufacturer's representatives argue that it was designed with a view to use in any conditions and in any environment. On the other hand Gear S3 Classic is a combination of minimalism and elegance. The device has been developed taking care of the details, selecting the size and shape in such a way that watches looked like from the premium segment.

New to the Gear series is the use in the new model Corning Gorilla SR+ glass, which has been specially designed and is to ensure that the watch will be durable and scratch resistant.

The display is made in the Super AMOLED technology, it shows 16 million colours. The AOD screen always shows the time without automatic dimming. Characteristic for Gear S3 rotating bezel has been updated with new features. Users can accept or reject the call or snooze the alarm without touching the screen. In addition, writing or drawing on the screen automatically converts to text messages and emoticons. You can also create short reminders and task lists.
A built-in GPS function allows you to monitor your daily physical activity, while the altimeter, the barometer and the speedometer allow to log all parameters - the height and atmospheric pressure after a sudden change in weather, distance and speed.
One-time charging enables operation up to four days. In an emergency, users can activate the SOS tracking location, to notify family, friends and rescue personnel about an emergency, even if they do not have a phone in their hand.
