Xiaomi introduces in China a modified version of Redmi Note 5 Pro recently presented in India. To make it more funnny, the phone was called Redmi Note 5, although there had already been a model with that name.

It’s a bit confusing, but the new Redmi Note 5, offered exclusively in China, is definitely closer to Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro than to the previous Redmi Note 5.

The new Chinese version of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 differs from Redmi Note 5 Pro only in details. The camera software has artificial intelligence (AI) mechanisms, while the Android 7.1.1 system was replaced with a newer version, or Oreo - but still with the MIUI 9 overlay.

On the hardware side, the microUSB port was replaced with USB C, now supporting the Quick Charge 3.0 quick-charge standard, instead of 2.0. The front camera matrix decreased from 20 (in the Indian model) to 13 megapixels, while the rear camera was improved. The 5-megapixel auxiliary matrix remains unchanged, but the main, 12-megapixel, has an enlarged pixel size, dual-pixel PDAF and a brighter lens - with aperture f/1.9 instead of f/2.2.

The rest of the specifications remained the same. So we have a 5.99-inch screen with a resolution of 2160x1080 pixels, a Snapdragon 636 processor and a 4000 mAh battery. You can choose from four housing colours and three memory versions: 3 + 32, 4 + 64 and 6 + 64 GB. They were priced at 1099, 1399 and 1699 yuan, which after conversion gives 174, 222 and 269 dollars.
