OPPO for 5 - we met new smartphones from the Reno 5 series

The Chinese brand OPPO is rapidly expanding its smartphone portfolio. Today, two new devices premiered: Oppo Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro. What specification do they offer? And is there anything that distinguishes them (apart from the fact that they glow in the dark)?

After the launch - OPPO officially presented the Oppo Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro models in China. Both have AMOLED screens and support 5G networks. The New Year's edition of the Reno 5 Pro and other accessories such as special editions of the smartwatch and wireless headphones were also presented. There is also a short preview of the Reno 5 Pro+ smartphone, which is to be the top, high-end model in the Reno 5 series.

It glows!

Apart from the screen and specification, the biggest novelty is that the camera module and the top edge of the Reno 5 series phones glows in the dark. This design is called Reno Glow 2.0. The Wiko company had a similar idea with the Fever 4G model - there, in the darkness, the frame "shone". But let's go back to Reno.

Specifications of new models

The Oppo Reno 5 Pro model has a 6.55-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and refresh rates up to 90 Hz. In the top left corner of the screen there is a hole for a selfies camera with a resolution of 32 MP, and a fingerprint scanner is built under the display. The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ octa-core processor supporting 5G network, it is supported by a maximum of 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. The device works with ColorOS 11 based on Android 11.

The main 64 MP camera with f/1.7 aperture is responsible for the photography in Reno 5 Pro. It is supported by an 8MP ultra wide angle camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP black and white depth sensing camera. The cameras support 4K video recording, but with UltraSteady mode enabled, the resolution is limited to 1080p. All this is powered by a 4350 mAh battery with 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging support.

Oppo Reno 5 is almost the same as Reno 5 Pro, except for the CPU and battery. The cheaper model is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G octa-core processor and has a 4300 mAh battery with 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 charging. It also has a slightly smaller screen, a flat screen and a universal headphone jack.

Versions, colours and prices

Reno 5 is available in the Star River Dreams, Aurora Blue, Moon Nights versions, while in the case of the Pro model there is also the Star Wish Red version - New Year's edition. The basic model has two variants. The 8/128 GB version costs 2699 yuan, while the 12/256 GB memory variant costs 2999 yuan. Reno 5 Pro was priced at 3399 yuan for the 8/128 GB version and 3799 yuan for the 12/256 GB model. There is also the Reno 5 Pro New Year Edition, valued at 3399 yuan.
