Motorola Edge X30 and Edge S30 officially!

photo: Motorola

Motorola's flagships were presented in China today. Motorola Edge X30 is the world's first smartphone to feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor! To complete the set, the Edge S30 was also shown - but the specification and the phone itself look strangely familiar...

But the processor itself does not make smartphones. What - apart from the mighty Snapdragon - can we find in the Motorola Edge X30? UFS 3.1 and LPDDR5 memories are certainly good company for the processor. We can have the first one in typical capacities of 128 or 256 GB, and the second one - 8 or 12 GB. Does it just seem to me that the 8+128 GB set doesn’t fits the flagship...? The presence of Android 12 at the start may be a consolation, but the 6.8-inch POLED display with FHD+ resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate is also promising.

The battery capacity is typical for Motorola 5000 mAh, but this time with a really fast 68 W charge. The rumours about the OV60A40 60-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture have been confirmed: it is and is another strong point of the whole structure. Interestingly, in the most expensive Special Edition variant, this camera will be hidden under the display.

The rear camera also does not bring shame in the flagship segment. The main module is a 50-megapixel OV50A40 with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and f/1.88 aperture, while the wide-angle one is also a 50-megapixel S5KJN1SQ03 module, with an f/2.2 aperture and a slightly modest field of view of 114 degrees. The set is completed with the 2-megapixel OV02B1B for blurring the background, in case the 2-lens camera seems too modest to some of the buyers.

There were Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, 5G or support for the Ready For function - but such elements should not be mentioned when discussing the Motorola flagship. I will mention the less obvious presence of stereo speakers with Atmos and two housing colours in which the new model appears. Motorola has prepared three memory versions - and three prices:

  • 8+128 GB - 2999 RMB, 475 USD, 1920 zł
  • 8+256 GB - 3199 RMB, 505 USD, 2050 zł
  • 12+256 GB - 3399 RMB, 535 USD, 2175 zł
  • Special Edition - 3999 RMB, 630 USD, 2560 zł
The date of availability of the new model outside of China was not mentioned.

In addition to the impressive Edge X30, Motorola also introduced a slightly "lighter" variant of the flagship, Moto Edge S30. In the case of this model, we are still dealing with a strong Qualcomm processor - but it is a slightly older Snapdragon 888+. The same applies to the screen: still 6.8 inches, still 144 Hz and Full HD +, but already in LCD IPS technology. The battery, invariably, has 5000 mAh, but the charging is only 33-watt. The selfie camera "shrunk" to a still decent 16 Mpx, but there will be a 108 megapixel unit, supported by an 8 Mpx wide-angle camera and 2 Mpx for blurring the background. If this construction seemed familiar to you - you are right. It's the local equivalent of "our" Moto G200 5G. In China, the device will be offered in the following versions:

  • 6+128 GB - 1799 RMB, 285 USD
  • 8+128 GB - 1999 RMB, 315 USD
  • 8+256 GB - RMB 2199, 345 USD
  • 12+256 GB - RMB 2399, USD 380
