In addition to the pompously debuting Sony Xperia 1 IV, a compact Sony Xperia 10 IV smartphone has been modestly announced. As in the previous generation, the compact from Sony means a 6-inch display.
Yes, Sony Xperia 10 IV is by today's standards light and compact, and the designers even managed to slim down the casing a bit. With a weight of 161 grams and dimensions of 153 x 67 x 8.3 mm, it offers a 6-inch OLED Triluminous display with a side ratio of 21x9. Compactness and compactness, and it seems to me that the biggest advantage of this compact design are the IP65/IP68 resistance classes and the Corning Gorilla Victus glass on the display.
For some reason, the manufacturer has not yet provided full details of photo cameras on the press prebriefing. It is known that there are 3 cameras on the back. In addition to the main unit with OIS (27 mm focal length), there are wide-angle (16 mm) and telephoto (54 mm) optics for a total of 3 cameras. At the front, there is 8 Mpx with software AI-based facial sharpening.
Sony Xperia 10 IV got Snapdragon 695, which, compared to the previous generation, doesn’t make this change a revolution. 5G support was and is, but there is no expectation of a leap in performance.
The battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh and, like the Sony Xperia 1 IV, the manufacturer gives it a 3-year warranty, but does not provide a charger. Traditionalists will probably be pleased to know that the smartphone has a 3.5 mm jack. The smartphone will be available in 4 colours: black, white, mint and lavender, but with only one set of 6 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM.
A slightly better processor, a slightly larger battery, slightly smaller dimensions and weight, slightly better protection of the display. In the case of Sony Xperia 10 IV, Sony consistently continues the series, but we probably agree that it is only a small evolution, not a revolution. Thanks to the rare presence of the Sony brand in the smartphone market, the mere possession of a device with a recognizable badge becomes something exclusive. However, I am afraid that Sony offers a bit too little to the current owners of Sony Xperia 10 III to consider switching to the latest model in the series, which is only slightly better than its predecessor.
Sales of the Sony Xperia 10 IV smartphone with Android 12 will start in mid-June 2022.
