Will foldables be followed by the era of rollable smartphones? We've seen quite a few patents and a few prototypes so far, but that's about it. Maybe the Phantom Ultimate from the fast-growing Tecno brand will have better luck...

The new product was unveiled today on the Tecno Facebook page. In the promotional photos, you can see a smartphone that expands from 6.55 inches to 7.11 inches in about 1.3 seconds after pressing the side button or tapping the screen. The device is 9.93 mm thick, and its display is AMOLED LTPO, offering a resolution of 2296 x 1596 px when unfolded at a density of 388 PPI and full reproduction of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. After collapse, the additional part of the screen moves to the back of the smartphone, where it functions as Always-On Display.

Since the teaser video shows a person using a real device, it's safe to say that the Phantom Ultimate has a better chance of being sold than the rendered Phantom Vision V. This ingenious hybrid of a foldable and unfoldable smartphone ultimately did not go beyond the concept phase, but we saw a more typical foldable, which is Tecno Phantom V Fold. The manufacturer does not say anything about the potential launch of Phantom Ultimate, and considering the fate of previous projects of this type, it can be expected that it will end with a prototype. But Transsion has already shown that it can surprise...
