HMD, known for its long-standing Nokia smartphone manufacturing, has undergone a transformation this year, and during IFA 2024, it has presented a truly unique smartphone. We now know the price of the HMD Fusion.
We have already seen the main marketing element of the HMD Fusion in renders, and now we can take a closer look at them and confirm their functionality. These are Fusion Outfits, or "outfits" or covers that add additional capabilities to the smartphone. Although the element that looked like an additional battery in the render ultimately turned out to be just a card holder, there are many practical extensions of the HMD Fusion available.
At the start, the smartphone box will include the Casual Outfit, a simple transparent case that provides additional protection without any special functions. Alternative outfits for the smartphone will be available for purchase separately, and four are planned for 2024 - Rugged offering IP68 tightness, Wireless enabling inductive charging, Gaming transforming the smartphone into a game controller, and Flashy - an overlay with a ring lamp, allowing you to adjust the lighting in photos with both the front and rear cameras. In the future, you can also expect an overlay with a barcode scanner, and this is just the beginning - the HMD Fusion Development Toolkit technical documentation available on the manufacturer's website will help creative fans to build completely new Fusion Outfits themselves.

HMD Fusion may also appeal to people looking for a simple, reliable smartphone. Like HMD Skyline, HMD Fusion will allow for easy replacement of the battery, display and other key components, and official spare parts will be available from the manufacturer in cooperation with iFixit for the next 7 years. For those looking for simplicity, there is also a Detox mode, which blocks selected apps and contacts when you want to avoid distractions.
Apart from its special features, HMD Fusion offers modest specifications, although not without advantages. Its display is a 6.56-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90 Hz, while the main 108 Mpx camera with an additional 2 Mpx depth sensor and a 50 Mpx selfie camera will be used for photos. Photographic capabilities are supported by electronic image stabilization (EIS), night mode, the ability to process images in RAW format and AI-assisted HDR. The HMD Fusion processor is Snapragon 4 Gen 2, and it is accompanied by 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal memory, expandable with a microSD card. Its battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh and charges at 33 W, with HMD promising two years of system updates and three years of security patches.
HMD Fusion will debut first in Europe - its price will be €249. The smartphone will soon hit European stores, and shortly after in the US.
