Blackview is a relatively niche brand in Poland, but it has released several interesting devices, including the exceptionally affordable foldable smartphone Blackview Hero 10. Is this brand's new rugged tablet also worth considering?
The Blackview Active 5 tablet, presented on manufacturer's website, is a rather unique device, blurring the line between smartphone and tablet. For a tablet, it's remarkably compact, and most of its specifications aren't impressive – its screen measures 8.68 inches, has a resolution of 1340 x 800 pixels, and has a 90 Hz refresh rate. Its 6600 mAh battery charges at 18W. Its Unisoc T615 processor supports LTE connectivity, and the hybrid slot allows for dual SIM or a microSD card.
A memory card can definitely be useful, adding up to 2 TB of additional file storage. Without one, the Blackview Active 5 will only offer 128 GB of internal memory. RAM is 8 GB, although it can theoretically be expanded by an additional 16 GB using virtual RAM. The operating system is DocOS P 4.2 based on Android 15, and you shouldn't expect many updates. The camera setup, despite its visual inspiration from the iPhone, also falls short of tablet standards – 16MP on the rear and 13MP on the front, enhanced by a multitude of generative AI features that allow, for example, to change the weather and time of day in photos. A definite advantage, however, is the Blackview Active 5's durability, confirmed by IP68, IP69, and MIL-STD-810H certifications.

Blackview Active 5 currently costs $247 in the official store. For those looking for a compact, durable, and affordable tablet, it may be a good choice, but it certainly faces stiff competition.
