Windows on a smartphone and beyond: one NexPhone, three systems!

Today's smartphones are comparable to desktop computers in many respects, although they are held back from fully replacing PCs by, among other things, their lack of compatibility with Windows applications. The NexPhone is ready to solve this problem.

The solution comes from Nex Computer, the company behind the NexDock – a cheap and lightweight alternative to a laptop that connects to a smartphone and allows you to interact with its content on a large 14-inch screen using a full-size keyboard and trackpad. NexDock is compatible with select Samsung Galaxy, Motoroli, Google Pixel, Huawei and Honor smartphones, and will soon be available with the NexPhone—an upcoming smartphone designed to replace a desktop computer.

A special feature of the NexPhone is its three-system support: you can choose between Android 16 and Windows 11, and from within Android, you can run Debian Linux, with hardware acceleration and access to all Android files and folders. All three systems can be used on either a large external monitor or on the smartphone screen – in the latter case, Windows will use a tile-based interface reminiscent of the old Windows Phone. A keyboard and mouse can be connected either wirelessly or using the included five-port splitter.

Without external accessories, the NexPhone remains a practical smartphone, albeit one with relatively modest specifications. Its processor is the Qualcomm QCM6490 – a long-life variant of the Snapdragon 778G, known from similarly unusual smartphones, such as the Fairphone 5 and HMD Fusion. There's 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, expandable by up to 512GB via a microSD card, and a 5000mAh battery supports 18W wired and wireless charging. The display is 6.58-inch, with a resolution of 1080 x 2403 px and a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and features a 64MP Sony IMX787 main camera, a Samsung S5K3L6XX ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10MP Samsung S5K3J1SX front-facing selfie camera. The smartphone also supports 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 LE, NFC, GPS, A-GPS, BeiDou, Galileo, and GLONASS navigation systems, and its durability and water resistance are confirmed by MIL-STD-810H, IP68, and IP69K certifications.

The NexPhone is currently available for reservation on the manufacturer's website for $199, with a final price of $549 (approximately €460). The NexPhone is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2026.
