Xiaomi has unveiled two new smartphones from the Redmi Turbo series in China. Redmi Turbo 5 and Redmi Turbo 5 Max combine robust batteries with high performance, yet modest design and cameras.

Redmi Turbo 5 and Redmi Turbo 5 Max share many features. The smartphones share a simple, minimalist design and a flat-sided chassis, boasting IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K waterproofing certifications. Both smartphones run Hyper OS 3 and feature LPDDR5X Ultra and UFS 4.1 memory. Both feature similar AMOLED displays with a resolution of 1.2K, a 120Hz refresh rate, and brightness up to 3500 nits. The screens feature 12-bit color, 3840Hz PWM dimming, and Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HDR Vivid certifications. However, the smartphones differ in size: the Redmi Turbo 5 has a 6.59-inch screen, while the Redmi Turbo 5 Max has a 6.83-inch screen. Consequently, the housing dimensions also differ: the base model measures 157.53 x 75.19 x 8.18 mm and weighs 204 g, while the Max measures 162.99 x 77.93 x 8.15 mm and weighs 219 g. At the top of the screens, we find 20-megapixel selfie cameras with an f/2.2 aperture, while the rear cameras are also similar—though not entirely. Both have 50-megapixels with an f/1.5 aperture and optical image stabilization, but the Redmi Turbo 5 uses a Sony IMX882 sensor, while the Redmi Turbo 5 Max uses a Light and Shadow Hunter 600. The wide-angle cameras, however, are equally basic—8-megapixels with an f/2.2 aperture.

Redmi Turbo 5 and Redmi Turbo 5 Max feature infrared transmitters, NFC, and stereo speakers. Both also charge at 100W and offer 27W reverse charging. However, the battery capacities are different, as are the processors used in the smartphones. The Redmi Turbo 5 has a MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra processor and a 7560mAh battery, while the Redmi Turbo 5 Max uses a MediaTek Dimensity 9500s processor, powered by a 9000mAh battery. There's a wide range of memory options to choose from:

  • Redmi Turbo 5 12+256GB - 2299 yuan, $330
  • Redmi Turbo 5 12+512GB - 2799 yuan, $405
  • Redmi Turbo 5 16+256GB - 2599 yuan, $375
  • Redmi Turbo 5 16+512GB - 3099 yuan, $450
  • Redmi Turbo 5 Max 12+256GB - 2499 yuan, $360
  • Redmi Turbo 5 Max 12+512GB - 2999 yuan, $435
  • Redmi Turbo 5 Max 16+256 GB - 2799 yuan, $405
  • Redmi Turbo 5 Max 16+512 GB - 3299 yuan, $475
The smartphones in this form—and under these names—will be available exclusively in China. Outside of China, they will be known as the Poco X8 Pro and Poco X8 Pro Max, though likely in slightly modified forms—with different body designs and smaller batteries.
