HMD Global has announced a new, simple phone, the Nokia 123 Shield, which is supposed to be the cheapest among rugged models.

Contrary to appearances, it's not quite as rugged as it seems, as it's IP65-rated – but due to its simplicity, it may actually prove exceptionally drop-resistant. The Nokia 123 Shield is a classic 2G phone, offering only the bare essentials: basic communication features, a flashlight, a minijack, and an FM radio. The phone also theoretically has a camera, but the QVGA resolution won't allow for much. The 2.4-inch LCD screen, with a simple keypad underneath, also has the same resolution. The phone uses a Unisoc SC6531E processor, S30+ OS, 4 MB of RAM and 4 MB of internal storage, which can fortunately be expanded with a microSD card. The phone is powered by a removable 1,750 mAh battery, which is rated for up to 19 days of standby time or nearly 28 hours of continuous talk time. It also has Dual SIM support – and that's it. A simple, affordable solution for someone who just needs a phone. The price is 35 euros.
