HMD Global has consistently been promoting a solution that bridges the gap between classic, simple phones and smartphones. The next such model is expected to be Nokia 250 4G Smart – a classic phone, but not entirely simple.

HMD has carved out a niche for the feature phone, targeting its solution not only at less affluent buyers from developing countries, but also at consumers who don't need a traditional smartphone but would like access to certain features not previously offered by traditional phones. The Nokia 250 4G Smart will feature a classic design, a small screen, and a numeric keypad, but will also operate on LTE networks and offer some smartphone-specific features. These include access to cloud computing and some AI features, such as translation. The smartphone will also offer the ability to use online messengers and make payments via Alipay. This clearly indicates that this is a model for the Chinese market. The phone will also have a QR code reader, spam blocking options, and a router function, which are essential for the Chinese market. It will also support Dual SIM, video calls, and feature an FM radio and a minijack.

The phone will be based on a Unisoc T137 processor, supported by 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of internal memory, likely with the option to expand with a microSD card. It will run on an RTOS system, which will appear on a 2.8-inch LCD screen, and will be powered by a 1950 mAh battery charged via USB-C. The new Nokia will also feature Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and two cameras – a VGA front-facing camera and a 2 MP rear-facing camera, both with LED flashes. It is also known that the Nokia 250 4G Smart will feature a rather unique IP54 waterproof rating for this class of device. However, it looks like this device will be more expensive than regular phones—but also slightly more advanced.
