Honor has unveiled an interesting smartphone. Although the Honor X5ds features decidedly budget-level specifications, it stands out thanks to an additional screen on the back of the casing!
The secondary 2.01-inch display (240 x 296 pixels) located on the back of the Honor X5ds is primarily used to show the time and notifications, but it also allows for music playback control and—most notably—taking selfies with the rear camera. This makes sense, given that the rear camera boasts a 50-megapixel sensor, an LED flash, an f/1.8 aperture, and 4x zoom, whereas the front camera is a mere 5 megapixels (f/2.0). Both record video at a maximum of Full HD resolution. It is here that the smartphone's budget nature begins to show.

The Honor X5ds features a 6.78-inch LCD main display with only HD+ resolution and 600 nits of brightness, though it makes up for this with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it runs on a Unisoc T610 processor supported by a meager 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage—though both can be expanded: RAM virtually, and flash storage via a microSD card. Aside from that, the triple-slot tray accommodates two SIM cards. As expected, the device runs on Android 16 Go. It also features a headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and an IP52 rating. The 6,000 mAh battery is a highlight, though it supports only 15W charging. The smartphone measures 168.3 x 78.5 x 8.72 mm and weighs 214 g. For now, the model has launched in South Africa, where it is priced at the equivalent of $150.
