Nothing fancy, but cheaper

Display

The 6.4-inch display offers all benefits of the AMOLED technology – which is a deep level of black, great contrast and colours saturation. There is Always on Display, dark mode and even the possibility to switch to levels of grey. This is one of two options available for eye protection – there is the standard blue light reduction, and all of this is supported by the system that limits the flickering of image while in the low brightness.

And since I have mentioned the brightness – it is perfect – both on the highest and the lowest level. There is something called OSIE – OPPO Screen Image Engine. This function is supposed to enhance the quality of image in social-multimedia apps. In practice – from the most popular apps in our region, it supports TikTok. Others are VMate, Vigo Video and Likee.

Unfortunately, (or maybe fortunately) I am not a TikTok fan – and truth to be told, I did not notice any spectacular effects of the work of OSIE, besides slightly changing the colours balance. The phone has a protective foil placed on the display from the beginning – and we can easily leave it on at the beginning of the usage, because it does not distort the image, though it gets damaged easily. But this is just a side note, because I rate the display highly. If only it did not have a notch… You ask about 90 Hz? In this price segment?!

Security

Access to Reno 3 is protected by a fingerprint scanner and the facial recognition system. The scanner is hidden under the display. It is pretty nice, it has a decent level of appropriate scans and a nice speed of work. For the price class of around 350 euro – it is all right. However, It did not help me to like these types of scanners…

As a consolation – we can change the animation around the scanner. Facial recognition is a rather simple and theoretically possible to be deceived system based on the image from the selfies camera. But in reality it is fast and efficient, even in weaker lighting. In the case of any problems – it will light your face with the display.

We can turn on the option of unlocking the display with our eyes closed. I do not advise doing that… There are other system securities. We can have a protected folder and we can turn on an option that prevents from recording the display or capturing image from cameras in particular situations. Oppo can even detect counterfeit, hacked base stations.
