ZTE showed at CES an interesting design. ZTE Eco-Mobius is a smartphone made up of interchangeable parts. While this is not the first of this kind of structure presented in recent months, although it is still too early to talk about the birth of a new segment of the market...
Although a few companies (including Motorola, Phonebloks or Xiaomi) have announced that they are working on modular phones, I think that such structures won't go beyond the stage of prototypes. They are simply unprofitable for manufacturers, since - after their dissemination - instead of buying a new phone we could consider for example the expansion of RAM or changing the camera for a better one. For buyers it would be cheaper - but that would mean less profits. And although I like the concept, the chances of its market debut I estimate as very small.

ZTE idea - just as competitive ones - assumes to exchange the phone's individual blocks. From the basic shaft of the housing containing the processor and RAM and ROM bones, there are isolated a battery , a display and a camera. In ZTE - beyond replacing modules - it will also be possible to interfere with the "core" modules - change the processor or memory. They were installed in a separate, removable boxes. A glance at the picture is enough to realize the simplicity and ease of modification of the phone. It's enough to release the latch, remove the current element and replace it with a new one. The modules were formed so as to prevent confusion and mounting them in the wrong place.

ZTE emphasizes that this is a very ecological design, because it extends the life cycle of the phone. Being able to modify and improve the mobile, we will throw them away more seldom. It's obvious - but I am still convinced that none of the manufacturers will let this procedure to be less expensive than replacing a phone every year or two! ZTE says, that it is able to introduce the model shown at CES on the market in a few months time, but I still do not believe that this plan will come true...
