At the end of last year we wrote about the Polish-Chinese smartphone Midia from the Onyx company, equipped with E Ink screen. It turned out that the distributor of Onyx - the company Arta Tech - exposes its product at CeBIT. The device sparked interest of the western sites...
And although MIDIA InkPhone is not thrilling, and the manufacturer's representatives are reluctant to cooperate with the national media, I welcome the fact that the Polish equipment arouses interest of foreign media. What drew the most attention? The note begins a clarification that the smartphone only has the E Ink screen – so it won't display, therefore, captivating graphics, won't run a game, but thanks to E Ink it will give us something we do not get from any other smartphone: a two-week time work after charging the battery with a capacity of 1800 mAh.
Daniel Cooper from Engadget notes that the Onyx brand is very popular in Poland - so much so, that it's the second most popular brand after Amazon's Kindle... I do not know where Cooper has the information from - but if he publishes it, he must be sure of it. Next unfortunately his admiration slightly decreases, because he says of the low-end Rockchip's processor, a small amount of RAM and 4GB of ROM. He also reports that the smartphone does not have a camera, but it has the microSD card slot up to 32 GB. The rest of the report is a description of the device work. According to the American journalist, a part of the functions of the device works really well, a built-in e-book reader is comparable even with the Kindle app. Unfortunately, there are also features acting much worse. Swiping between pages on the home screen takes a long time, we don't have access to Google Play and we need to install APK files ourselves. This has to be intentional, because the manufacturer MIDIA InkPhone is aware of the fact that low E Ink screen refreshing may prevent the use of most software from the Google store. The report ends with information on the price of 140 euro and the announcement of the device release on the Polish and German market in April.

We were able to obtain confirmation of the latter information from the representatives of Onyx. We have also learned - what Engadget also points out - that at the fair there was shown the prototype, which may not operate in an ideal manner, because they are still working on the software, there may also change the hardware side of the device. For this reason, we have to wait a few more weeks for the possibility to test this interesting structure...
