G8 Power and G8 Power Lite look almost the same

Motorola has recently developed its smartphone stylization canon - and the models discussed are unlikely to break out of it. Their rear is very similar, with a longitudinal camera frame and one larger, specially emphasized lens. Near the camera we meet another characteristic detail - the Motorola logo neatly integrated into the fingerprint reader. Looking more closely, however, we will notice differences. The more expensive model has a shiny finish and an LED diode next to the camera frame. In turn, in "Lite" the diode was inserted into the camera holder instead of one of the lenses, and the bottom of the housing had holes for the speaker. The back is dull, which should make it more bold and scratchy. Both smartphones are protected with a hydrophobic coating. This does not mean that they are waterproof, but they should survive splashing, and maybe even accidental, short-term flooding with liquid. At the front - the difference can be seen immediately. One model has a hole for a selfie camera, and the other has a droplet notch.

Moto G8 Power has a definitely better display

The screen is the most important - in my opinion - element of the smartphone. It is with it that we communicate with the device. So it should be good. In this comparison, Moto G9 Power comes out on the lead. It has a higher resolution display - i.e. simply clearer. This screen also looks more modern, because the selfie camera is integrated into the hole, which is more discreet than the notch in Moto G8 Power Lite. The cheaper model also has a larger frame around the display - but it also has the advantage. The Moto G8 Power Lite display is larger than in the Moto G8 Power: 6.5 vs 6.36 inches. Both matrices were made in IPS technology, so colour reproduction and readability angles are similar. The Moto G8 Power display shines a little brighter.

Moto G8 Power is more efficient

If you expect a good performance from your smartphone, Motorola Moto G8 Power is a better choice. This smartphone uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor, while in the cheaper model we find the MediaTek Helio P35 MT6765 chip. And although both models have 4 GB of RAM, the difference in smoothness of operation is noticeable. Saving makes sense when you do not use too many applications and do not use games. The memory capacity for files is, however, identical - smartphones have 64 GB each - of course with the option of using a microSD card. The Lite model, however, has a more practical slot - using a memory card does not exclude the use of two SIM cards. The Moto G8 Power slot is unfortunately hybrid already.

Good finger readers

Both smartphones also have classic fingerprint readers that work quite well. Erroneous readings are quite rare for them. However, both models lack facial recognition.

You have to do without NFC

Both smartphones are equipped with FM radio and minijack outputs. Unfortunately, Motorola Moto G8 Power Lite has an older type of connector, microUSB. None of the compared models has NFC. As a consolation, we get silicone covers. Moto G8 Power has a newer version of Bluetooth - 5.0. The quality of connections in both models is comparable. The voice is transmitted correctly, there are no problems with maintaining coverage. In Moto G8 Power, however, it is easier to cover the "external" speaker while playing or watching movies.

Pure Android

A distinctive feature of Motorola smartphones is the raw form of the system interface. Motorola does not use any overlays, giving us Android almost what Google created it. However, the manufacturer adds some practical solutions to Moto G8 Power, such as the iconic gestures that almost allow turning on a flashlight or a camera, as well as the option of convenient generation of screenshots. Gestures to mute signals or wake up the screen are also provided. There are also additional sound settings or the company's Always-on-Display substitute, showing a clock with notifications if we wave our hand over the phone or lift it. In G8 Power Lite we will find a notification diode, which was missing in the more expensive model.

G8 Power and G8 Power Lite have identical batteries

Batteries with the same capacity - 5000 mAh were used in both models. Thanks to them, both smartphones offer a really long operating time, reaching up to 4 days. With normal use of the phone, which is not energy-saving, the working time reaches 2.5 days. Interestingly, the cheaper model, despite the weaker, less power-consuming specification, does not work longer than the version with a more powerful processor. Moto G8 Power charges its battery faster, with a power of 15 W. Moto G8 Power Lite must be 10 W, which will extend the charging time from approx. 2 to 2.5 hours. None of these models has induction charging.

Moto G8 Power takes better photos

Although the main cameras (16 Mpx, f/1.7) are the same in both models, Moto G8 Power wins the photo startup, with one more lens. In addition, it is not a simple 2 Mpx module, but an 8-megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens, which is really useful. Its field of view reaches 118 degrees. The next camera also has 8 megapixels and offers twice lossless zoom. In Moto G8 Power Lite instead of a wide-angle camera and a tele, we have a slightly less useful, 2-megapixel macro camera. In both phones we will find 2-megapixel cameras for blurring the background. In the field of selfie - Moto G8 Power also performs better, offering a resolution of 16, not 8 megapixels, like the Lite model. Movies - similarly, Moto G8 Power gives you more, allowing you to record materials in high 4K resolution. The quality of photos from the main cameras of both models is similar. Both photograph correctly, but I wouldn't recommend any for night shots.

Moto G8 Power or Moto G8 Power Lite

The price difference between Moto G8 Power and Moto G8 Power Lite is $60 or 60 EUR. If you can, add this amount and choose Moto G8 Power. It has the same large battery as Moto G8 Power Lite, but a better processor, a more powerful camera and a clearer, though slightly smaller screen. I recommend savings only if you do not care about higher performance (you do not play), and when photographic possibilities are not crucial for you. A small argument in favor of choosing Moto G8 Power Lite may be the triple card slot. However, this is only the case if you use DualSIM and a memory card on a daily basis. I bet on Moto G8 Power without hesitation!
