Nokia is changing - three new series and six new smartphones

The Finnish telephone manufacturer HMD Global has completed the presentation of new products intended for the European market. The launch took place under the slogan: Love it. Trust it. Keep it. New nomenclature was presented in three new lines of smartphones: the X, G and C series and new smartphones: the budget Nokia C10 and C20, the mid-range Nokia G10 and G20 and the most powerful and best equipped Nokia X10 and X20.

New smartphone names

Rumours about the change in the naming of Nokia smartphones have been confirmed - the manufacturer, along with new models, will divide its portfolio into three lines:

  • C - designs at lower prices, offering basic functions and introducing users to the world of smartphones,
  • G - models that offer the best compromise in terms of options and prices, i.e. medium-shelf designs that are to reach the largest number of users,
  • X - the most powerful series, with equipment and functions meeting the expectations of the most demanding users.

Along with the official presentation of the names of the three smartphone series, we got to know a total of six new smartphones, two for each product line.

C Line - Nokia C10 and C20

Budget Nokia phones, the price of which is expected to be between $ 60 and $ 130. The assumption is to combine the latest technologies and a low price, without losing quality and durability. They will offer up to 2 years of security patch updates, all-day battery life and a system adapted to a lower number of gigabytes of RAM.

The representative of this line will be Nokia C20, which combines Scandinavian design and reliability, works under the control of Android 11 (Go Edition) and supports 4G networks. It has a 6.5-inch HD+ screen with a slight indentation and is offered in several memory options: 1/16 GB, 1/32 GB, 2/16 GB and 2/32 GB. The SC9863a octa-core processor is responsible for the performance. In addition, it has a 5 MP main camera, a 5 MP selfie camera, a face recognition function and a battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh that can be removed. Add to this numerous communication options: Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n modules, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/aGPS, as well as a 3.5 mm mini-jack headphone jack and a microUSB (USB 2.0) port with OTG support. The price of this device is expected to be 89 euros on the European market. The smartphone will be available from May in sand and dark blue colours in 1/16 and 2/32 GB variants.

The second representative of this family will be Nokia C10, which was valued at 75 euros. The cheapest and simplest model with Android 11 (Go editon), which is equipped with a 6.5-inch HD+ screen, 1 or 2 GB of RAM and up to 32 GB of internal memory with the possibility of installing a microSD card. Both on the front and on the back panel, the phone has 5 MP cameras, and also has a replaceable battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh. The phone is also equipped with a Unisoc SC7331e processor, a microUSB port and a headphone jack.

G Line - Nokia G10 and G20

Here, the price point is slightly higher - from $ 110 to $ 300. Smartphones from this line will ensure high quality when dealing with Android, as well as reliability and a high level of security - the manufacturer promises two years of system updates and three years of monthly security updates. The distinguishing feature of this line is also a long battery life, up to 3 days.

In the new series HMD focuses on the Nokia G20 model and its photographic capabilities thanks to the 48 MP main camera, AI image processing and OZO Audio sound. It is supported by a 5 MP ultra wide angle camera, a 2 MP macro camera and a 2 MP depth camera. At the front, in a slight indentation, there is an 8 MP selfie camera. The battery with a capacity of 5050 mAh is to provide up to 3 days of work. The smartphone is powered by Mediatek Helio G35, supported by 4 GB of RAM. The internal memory is 64 or 128 GB. The effects of work can be viewed on a 6.5-inch HD+ screen with an aspect ratio of 20: 9. There was also a fingerprint scanner and face recognition. Nokia G20 will be available in select markets around the world from July, in Night and Glacier colours, and in configurations of 4/64 GB and 4/128 GB. In Europe, it will cost from 159 euros.

The second model presented in this series, the Nokia G10, will cost 139 euros. It is to be available on selected markets from July in the Night and Dusk color versions and configurations of 3/32 GB and 4/64 GB. Here, the manufacturer pays attention primarily to a powerful battery that will provide up to three jobs - the cell has a capacity of 5050 mAh. The smartphone has a 6.5-inch HD + screen with Brightness boost function, and the photos are taken from the 13 MP main camera, supported by a 2 MP macro camera and a 2 MP depth camera. The Wi-Fi module in the 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 5.0 standard is responsible for connectivity, while the physical connectors have a USB-C port and a 3.5 mm mini-jack. The whole thing is powered by Mediatek G25, supported by 3 or 4 GB of RAM. Memory options, on the other hand, are 32 or 64 GB, and more space can be obtained with a microSD card.

X Line - Nokia X10 and X20

Top series of smartphones with prices starting from $ 250 and above. Here, the manufacturer has packed the best of everything: multi-day battery life, support for 5G networks as well as optics and image processing software made of Zeiss. What's more, for the X series models, the manufacturer promises longer support than most competitors - three years of system updates. There is one more element that distinguishes this line - alleged ecology. Well, HMD does not intend to put chargers in packages with Nokia X10 and Nokia X20, explaining it with ecological reasons - lower production costs, lower transport costs, smaller packages... instead, the package contains a fully biodegradable case. One may ask why the ecological approach has been applied to only one series, and not to all - in the future HMD is considering the lack of chargers also in the G series models. However, if the charger is necessary, it can be purchased on the manufacturer's website - the profit from the sale will be allocated to the CLEAR RIVERS organization.

The most powerful model in this series will be Nokia X20, which supports the so-called bothie, i.e. films made with the use of two cameras at the same time. What's more, different camera configurations are possible here, i.e. main and ultra-wide angle as well as macro and front, as well as different versions of the PiP (Picture-in-Picture) function. The smartphone also boasts Zeiss optics and a set consisting of four cameras: 64 MP with AF, 5 MP with FF (ultra-wide angle), 2 MP depth measurement and 2 MP macro. The 32 MP camera with FF is responsible for the selves. The whole thing is powered by Snapdragon 480 5G with 6/64 or 8/128 GB of memory. In addition, Android 11, a fingerprint scanner on the side edge, face recognition, FM radio, NFC, USB-C, universal headphone jack and a battery with a capacity of 4470 mAh. Nokia X20 will be available in select markets around the world from May. The smartphone was priced in Europe at 349 euro.

The second model in this series, Nokia X10, was priced at 309 euros. This smartphone is equipped with a 6.67-inch screen with Full HD+ resolution with a brightness of up to 450 nits, as well as a 48 MP camera with ZEISS optics and a Snapdragon 480 5G processor. The whole works under the control of Android 11, which can count on three years of system updates and security patches. The device is available in 6/64, 6/128 and 4/128 GB versions, offers support for microSD cards, and additionally has a set of communication modules with NFC. Nokia X10 boasts a battery with a capacity of 4470 mAh, the presence of a universal headphone jack and a fingerprint scanner on the side edge and a Google Assistant button. Nokia X10 will be available in select markets around the world from June in the Forest and Snow colour versions in the configurations 6/64 GB, 6/128 GB and 4/128 GB.

Nokia Lite headphones

During the launch, a new gadget also debuted - Nokia Lite in-ear headphones. They are characterized by an easy-to-use touch music control system, a voice assistant and the ability to make calls. Their case will provide around six additional charging periods. This will allow up to 36 hours of music playback, almost double the industry standard.
