The German company NitroKey boasts that it has created the safest phone in the world. NitroPhone 1 is Google Pixel 4a with revised firmware.

From the hardware side, NitroPhone 1 is nothing but the well-known Google Pixel 4a. You can therefore count on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor with a Titan M security chip, 6+128 GB memory or a 5.81-inch Full HD+ display. The smartphone also has a 12.2-megapixel camera and a fingerprint reader.

What distinguishes NitroPhone 1 from Pixel is the software. NitroPhone 1 is equipped with the GrapheneOS system, which differs from ordinary Android by the lack of additional applications and extensive security options. In addition to the additional Titan M chip, the phone has an option to safely boot the system with a check that the software has not been modified. In addition, the smartphone can be configured to turn itself off after a certain period of inactivity - e.g. when the device is left unattended. PIN encryption has also been added and an optional "privacy screen" that prevents unauthorized viewing of the content on the display.

The system has enhanced protection against malware, as well as a security-modified PDF viewer and reader. Applications are placed in a specially designated system zone (Sandbox), and the user is guaranteed to receive the latest security patches on a regular basis.

The phone's transceiver system is isolated to prevent attack via cellular networks or Wi-Fi. MAC address randomization has been introduced to make attacks more difficult, and in addition, applications cannot access the IMEI number and serial number of the device, SIM serial numbers, subscriber ID, MAC address, etc. Of course, any installed application has all permissions limited by default - the user himself decides what he wants to send. All data is encrypted, as are all backups and files in the cloud.

The producer boasts the recommendation of Edward Snowden himself, a former CIA employee and author of one of the most famous leaks of secret documents. "If I were setting up a smartphone today, I would use DanielMicay's GrapheneOS as the primary operating system. I would desolder the microphones," said Snowden. In fact, the manufacturer offers the option of physically removing the microphones from the phone to prevent the phone from being used for wiretapping. Then - calls are possible through the headset. The smartphone was priced at 630 euro.
