Nubia presents Red Magic 9 Pro and Red Magic 9 Pro+

New gaming smartphones from ZTE's Nubia sub-brand debuted in China, which in turn uses the Red Magic sub-brand in the gaming world. It's a bit twisted - but Red Magic 9 Pro and Red Magic 9 Pro+ they offer a simple shape and interesting equipment.

As befits gaming smartphones, Red Magic 9 Pro and Red Magic 9 Pro+ features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor along with LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0 memories. Next to it, there is a special co-processor supporting gaming performance - Red Core R2 PRO, and all this is cooled by the active ICE 13 system with a fan. The smartphones feature 6.8-inch rectangular narrow-bezel Q9+ OLED displays supplied by BOE. The screens have a resolution of 2480x1116 pixels, 10-bit colors, brightness up to 1600 nits, image refreshment of 120 Hz, touch refreshment of 960 Hz and dimming of 2160 Hz PWM. Not only fingerprint readers but also selfie cameras are hidden under the screens. These are 16-megapixel Omnivision OV16E1Q modules.

Compared to the previous generation, Nubia has modified the rear cameras. The main and wide-angle cameras now have 50 megapixels each. The main one is the S5KGN5 matrix with optical image stabilization, and the wide-angle one is the S5KJN1. Next to it, a 2-megapixel GC02M1 macro camera has been added. The equipment also includes additional triggers for players with 520 Hz refresh rate, three microphones, stereo speakers, a minijack and X-axis vibration. There are 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and USB 3.2 communication modules and an infrared transmitter. The system is Red Magic OS 9.0 based on Android 14.

The price list, as is typical for Nubia, is quite complicated:

As you can see, the difference between Red Magic 9 Pro and Red Magic 9 Pro+ it's actually just bigger memories... The batteries are also different. The Red Magic 9 Pro is powered by a 6500 mAh battery with 80-watt charging. In turn, the Red Magic 9 Pro+ model has a 5,500 mAh battery with 165-watt charging. This variant is unlikely to reach beyond China.
