Today, the Xiaomi 14 smartphone has its global launch, which debuted in China last year, accompanied by Xiaomi 14 Pro. This time, the Xiaomi flagship debuts alone - but to wipe away our tears, we also have the launch of the photographic Xiaomi 14 Ultra. There are also new ecosystem devices.

Xiaomi 14

Xiaomi 14 has an attractive styling, with a shiny back and a metal housing frame. By current standards, Xiaomi 14 is almost compact - it has a 6.36-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2670x1200 pixels and an impressive brightness of up to 3000 nits. The screen is surrounded by an attractive, symmetrical and narrow frame with a width of 1.71 mm, and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus glass. At the top of the screen there is a hole for a 32-megapixel selfie camera, and at the bottom there is an under-screen fingerprint reader. The heart of the smartphone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, supported by LPDDR5x operating memory and UFS 4.0 internal memory. Of course, the operating system is Android 14 with the new Hyper OS overlay, which replaced MIUI. The smartphone also has stereo speakers, X-axis vibration and an infrared transmitter (remote control), cleverly hidden in the camera frame. The camera itself has a 50-megapixel matrix with a size of 1/1.31", f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilization. The other two cameras are also 50-megapixel. We have a wide-angle module (115 degrees, f/2.2) and a telephoto module equivalent 75 mm focal length (f/2.0) and classic design. All this is powered by a 4,610 mAh battery with 90-watt wired charging and 50-watt induction. The smartphone is priced from 999 euro.

Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro and Xiaomi 14 Ultra

Xiaomi also presented the new Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro tablet and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra smartphone with impressive photographic capabilities, which we wrote about a few days ago, when they premiered in China. In this case, we only need to provide European prices:

  • Xiaomi 14 Ultra 16+512 GB - 1499 euro
  • Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 8+256 GB Wi-Fi - 699 euro

There is a problem...

Finally, I must mention a certain ailment that plagues the premiere Xiaomi 14 smartphone. While testing the device on the streets of Barcelona, together with my industry colleagues (and friend!) we discovered that Xiaomi 14 suffers from a certain undesirable ailment. In certain conditions - with higher air humidity and variable temperatures, especially after moving the phone from a warm room to a cool outdoors, fog appears on the lens (or rather - on the inside of the glass protecting it) of the main camera. This phenomenon subsides after some time, but it may become annoying if we need to use the camera at a given moment. What's even more interesting is that the haze appears only on one of the lenses - the other two always remain transparent. We reported this problem to Xiaomi representatives and obtained the manufacturer's position. Here it is, in its original form: "The Xiaomi 14 series is tested in our laboratories for protection against the ingress of dust and sprayed water. We assure you that this is not a product quality issue. This is a natural phenomenon due to temperature differences between the lens and ambient air under certain environmental conditions. This is common in situations where the ambient temperature changes rapidly from high to low, with prolonged exposure to high temperature and high humidity, or in the event of flooding. If the lens fogs up, we recommend leaving the device in a dry place with good air flow to remove moisture". For now, I would rather not judge how often this phenomenon occurs and how annoying it will be in everyday use. I will observe it and talk about it in more detail in my review.
