Huawei today unveiled the Huawei Mate 80 series smartphones in China: Huawei Mate 80, Huawei Mate 80 Pro, Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max, and Huawei Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design. The foldable smartphone Huawei Mate X7 was also unveiled.
The star of the launch is, of course, the foldable Huawei Mate X7. This smartphone features a Kirin 9030 Pro processor and an IP58/IP59-rated casing. Folded, it's only 9.5 mm thick, and unfolded, it's 4.5 mm thick. The Mate X7 has a 6.49-inch external screen, while the foldable internal screen measures 8 inches. Both are LTPO OLED displays, with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and 1440 Hz PWM dimming. Power is provided by a 5600 mAh battery with 66-watt wired charging and 50-watt induction. The Huawei Mate X7 is equipped with two 8-megapixel selfie cameras, as well as a 50-megapixel main camera with a 50-megapixel RYYB sensor, optical stabilization, and a variable f/1.4-4.0 aperture. There's also a 40-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 50-megapixel camera with a 3.5x telephoto lens. The smartphone is offered with 12+256GB and 12+512GB storage options for 12,999 and 13,999 yuan, respectively, or $1,830 and $1,970, or PLN 6,710 and PLN 7,225. There is also a special version of the Huawei Mate X7 Collector's Edition with an imitation leather finish, in 16+512 GB and 20 GB + 1 TB versions, for 14,999 and 17,999 yuan, respectively, which is $2,115 and $2,535, or PLN 7,755 and PLN 9,295.

The Huawei Mate 80 features a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 1.5K, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and a peak brightness of 8000 nits and a maximum brightness of 4500 nits. The screen also features 1440Hz PWM dimming and 300Hz touch sampling, and is protected by 2nd generation Kunlun glass. The smartphone is powered by last year's Kirin 9020 processor. All models in the series also offer IP69/68 water resistance. The new series of smartphones supports two-way Beidou satellite communication and connectivity between models of the same type, even without access to the network – at a distance of up to 13 km. The Huawei Mate 80 has a 13-megapixel selfie camera, as well as a 50-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and a variable aperture of f/1.4-f/4.0. The smartphone also has a 40-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel camera with an RYYB sensor and a periscope telephoto lens with 5.5x zoom. There's also a red light sensor and 3D facial recognition. Naturally, the main camera and all telephoto cameras in the entire series feature optical image stabilization. The smartphone is powered by a 5750 mAh battery with 66-watt charging and 50-watt induction.

The Huawei Mate 80 Pro display is similar to that of the base model. However, the processor is different. Unlike the base model, the other smartphones in the series have the newer Kirin 9030 chip, while versions with more than 16 GB of RAM have its overclocked Kirin 9030 Pro variant. The battery capacity is similar to the base model, but charging is faster – 100W wired and 80W inductive. The Huawei Mate 80 Pro has a similar selfie camera with 3D facial recognition and an additional color spectrum sensor, as well as a 50-megapixel main camera with the same aperture but a different main sensor – 1/1.28 inch. The wide-angle camera is once again identical to the base model, but the periscope telephoto lens has 4x zoom and works with the 48-megapixel sensor.

The Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max retains the display found in lower-end models, but regardless of the memory version, it has the Kirin 9030 Pro processor. It is powered by a 6000 mAh battery, with charging capabilities similar to the Pro model. The Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max still has a 13-megapixel selfie camera and a 50-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and a variable f/1.4-f/4.0 aperture, as well as a 40-megapixel wide-angle camera. However, the periscope telephoto lenses are different. There are two, both supporting 50-megapixel RYYB sensors. The former offers 4x zoom, while the latter offers 6.2x, while lossless zoom reaches up to 12.4x. It also has a color sensor.

Huawei Mate 80 RS also has a 6.9-inch OLED screen with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, but with a peak brightness of 7000 nits and 4000 nits on the surface, as well as 1440 Hz PWM dimming - but it is protected by a different glass - Basalt 3rd gen. The rest of the specifications are basically the same as in the Pro Max, but the RS model has a different housing styling and larger memory.
