Coolpad has joined the ranks of manufacturers offering "wide" smartphones, launching a device that stands in stark contrast to the much-anticipated Oppo Reno X. The Coolpad Cool X Wide is a budget-friendly device.
It appears that the Coolpad Cool X Wide will be the first affordable smartphone to feature a 16:10 aspect ratio—a format currently gaining popularity. While there is talk of several similar designs, this model is set to be the first to hit the market. It is currently available for pre-order, and a teaser suggests a price point of 999 yuan, or approximately 150 US dollars.
At this price point, one shouldn't expect too much—and, in truth, you don't get a great deal. Beyond the wider 6.38-inch LCD screen with HD+ resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate, the device is powered by the well-known, entry-level MediaTek Helio G99 processor. As a consolation, it will be accompanied by up to 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage—though, unfortunately, of the UFS 2.2 type. It will also feature a microSD card slot and Dual SIM support, with power provided by a 4600 mAh battery. On the back, there will be a 50-megapixel camera alongside a macro lens. The smartphone is set to run the Android 16 operating system with the DroiClaw Zhuge 3 overlay, which is designed for wider screens.
