Chinese company Xiaomi surprised us today with their new smartphones: offered in two (actually four) versions the MI-2S and a slightly simpler MI-2A. By the way, it turned out that SGS4 is no longer the king of benchmarks...
At the beginning it is worth looking at the top model 2S, which is a development of the already known smartphone Xiaomi Phone 2. Just like that one, the new model has a 4.3-inch IPS display and a resolution of 720p. It got, however, a higher processor – a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600. It also has 2 GB of RAM, a battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh, NFC, two microphones with noise reduction system and a 2-megapixel front camera. There are two variants of this model, with different cameras and memory capacity. The model with 32 GB of memory has a 13-megapixel camera with F2.2 lens, and the 16 GB version will get the camera with 8 megapixels and F2.0 lens. Phone will be built in version for WCDMA 850/1900/2100MHz and CDMA variant for China Telecom. Prices will amount 320 and $ 370. It’s worth paying attention to benchmarks. Xiaomi 2S obtained in the AnTuTu benchmark 25,913 points, beating... Samsung Galaxy S4, which scored 25.446 points.
The budget variant of a new model will be the smartphone MI-2A. Interestingly, although in theory it is clearly positioned below, it got greater, because a 4.5-inch display, but still at a resolution of 720p. There capacity memory was halved, a quad-core processor replaced with a dual-core unit clocked at 1.7 GHz. From the more expensive model there was taken an 8-megapixel camera, 16-gigabyte memory and a removable 2000 mAh battery, NFC modules and Wi-Fi 5 GHz. It has an interesting sound system developed by Swedish company Dirac, which, in general, is equivalent to Dolby sound processor. The price of this smartphone will be $ 240.
Both models will use MIUI v5 interface. Therefore there will appear (operating only in China) pre-identification of unknown incoming caller ID, based on Chinese crowd-sourced phone number database, the new phone book with hotline numbers and the ability to record conversations automatically in the background. This option is transparent and allows you to record up to 168 hours of MP3 files. MIUI 5 has also a monitoring of network traffic and video chat called MiChat. There is aolso a novelty - company's app store MiStore, currently proposing 20 thousand items, of which at least half are games.
For now, you can buy new Xiaomi in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, there is no news about their wider distribution, but it has not been explicitly excluded.
