The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor has already debuted, so it's time to present the first devices using it. These are the Xiaomi 17 series smartphones and Xiaomi Pad 8 tablets.

Xiaomi 17

Xiaomi 17 is a compact flagship with a 6.3-inch OLED LTPO screen with a resolution of 1220x2656 pixels, up to 3500 nits of brightness, and a refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. The screen features Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass and a bezel just 1.18 mm wide, with an ultrasonic fingerprint reader beneath it. The smartphone is, of course, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and a sizable 7000 mAh battery for its size, supporting 100-watt wired charging, 50-watt induction, and 22.5-watt reverse charging. The camera setup includes four 50-megapixel sensors. It includes a wide-angle camera with a 17 mm equivalent focal length and an f/2.4 aperture, a main camera with a 1/1.31-inch Light Hunter 950 sensor and an f/1.67 aperture, a 2.6x telephoto camera (f/2.0), and a selfie camera (f/2.0). The housing is IP68-rated and available in four colours. The following memory variants are available:

  • 12+256 GB - 4499 yuan, $630
  • 12+512 GB - 4799 yuan, $675
  • 16+512 GB - 4999 yuan, $700

Xiaomi 17 Pro

Xiaomi 17 Pro has a screen and processor similar to the Xiaomi 17 - but it has a spectacular new feature - an additional rear display, integrated into the camera island. It has a 2.7-inch diagonal, a resolution of 904x572 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a brightness of up to 3500 nits. It also has three 50-megapixel cameras next to the display. The main camera has a 1/1.28" Light Fusion 950L sensor, an f/1.67 aperture, and optical stabilization, while the wide-angle camera has an f/2.4 aperture, but only offers a surprisingly small 102-degree field of view. The telephoto camera with OIS, an f/3.0 aperture, and 5x zoom performs better. There's also a 50-megapixel selfie camera. This model is powered by a 6300 mAh battery, with charging capabilities similar to the base model. The memory range includes the following variants:

  • 12+256 GB - 4999 yuan, $700
  • 12+512 GB - 5299 yuan, $745
  • 16+512 GB - 5599 yuan, $785
  • 16GB + 1TB - 5999 yuan, $840

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is similar - but larger. On the front, it has a 6.9-inch LTPO screen with a 1-120 Hx refresh rate and up to 3500 nits of brightness, while the rear screen is 2.9-inch with a resolution of 976 x 596 pixels. Like the other models, the Pro Max features the new Snapdragon processor and LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1 memory, and is powered by a 7500mAh battery. mAh, again with the same charging capacities. Most of the cameras are the same as in the Xiaomi 17 Pro model – except for the telephoto camera. A different periscope lens design allows for the use of a larger 1/2" sensor and an improved aperture – to f/2.6. Only macro photos fare worse. While the Pro model can take them with the telephoto lens from a distance of 20 cm, the Pro Max requires a distance of 30 cm. The Pro and Pro Max models, like the basic models, are IP68-rated. The memory versions and prices are as follows:

  • 12+512GB - 5999 yuan, $840
  • 16+512GB - 6299 yuan, $885
  • 16GB + 1TB - 6999 yuan, $980

Xiaomi Pad 8

Along with the new smartphones, the Xiaomi Pad 8 tablet series was also introduced. The base model breaks away from the launch lineup somewhat, boasting a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor. The memory options are interesting: the 8GB RAM versions are LPDDR5X, while the 12GB are LPDDR5T. Similarly, the 128GB flash is UFS 3.1, and the 256GB is UFS 4.1. The LCD screen is 11.2 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 3200x2136 pixels, a 144Hz refresh rate, and 800 nits of brightness. The screen is available in glossy and matte finishes. It is powered by a 9200mAh battery with 45W charging (and 22.5W reverse charging). The tablet has four speakers and cameras: 13MP on the rear and 8MP on the front. The storage versions are as follows:

  • 8+128GB - 2199 yuan, $310
  • 8+256GB - 2499 yuan, $350
  • 12+256GB - 2799 yuan, $395
  • 8+256GB (Matte Edition) - 2699 yuan, $380
  • 12+256GB (Matte Edition) - 2999 yuan, $420

Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro

Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro has the same screen as the Xiaomi Pad 8, but of course, it now has the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and faster, 67-watt charging. It also has better cameras: a 32-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel rear camera, both with an f/1.8 aperture. Like the base model, it also has four speakers and the Hyper OS 3.0 system, which is also found in the smartphones described above. Like the cheaper model, you can optionally purchase a stylus and a keyboard cover. There are plenty of versions:

  • 8+128GB - 2799 yuan, $395
  • 8+256GB - 3099 yuan, $435
  • 12+256GB - 3399 yuan, $480
  • 12+256GB (Matte Edition) - 3599 yuan, $505
  • 12+512GB - 3699 yuan, $520
  • 12+512GB (Matte Edition) - 3899 yuan, $550
  • 16+512GB - 3899 yuan, $550
  • 16+512GB (Matte Edition) - 4099 yuan, 575 USD
