Straight out of the box: Sony Xperia Z1

Simple design, powerful hardware configuration and the promise of decent photos encourage to have a closer look at the Sony Xperia Z1 model. I'm glad most because of the shutter button, the display without fingerprints and water resistance.

Oh, I guess I was wrong by publishing the photo with the lens. Please remember that it is not in the set, right? Xperia Z1 has its own lens, even two. The main composite matrix has 20.7 megapixels. The impatient can skip to the video on the bottom of the material.

Yes, we have already talked about Sony Xperia Z1. In Berlin, at IFA 2013 I could have a closer look at Z1, but then I didn't have the opportunity to see how it looks and works with the DSC- QX10 lens.

Just have a look - in the box it is unfortunately modestly. In addition to a cable and a charger I didn't find the expected headphones, but the device itself rewards this letdown. Due to the size of the case, Xperia Z1 looks great when pointing to the lens (10x optical zoom is power), but even without it, it takes pictures with an impressive quality.

The diligence of the housing project is evident in every detail. Flawless surfaces of the display and the battery are highly resistant to scratches. It is true that in the strong light of our mini- studio it seemed to me that they are also highly resistant to fingerprints, but I was a bit wrong. They are still smaller than in case if many devices currently used by us, but they are there. The good news is that you do not have terribly strain to clear them.

An aluminum frame, which wafer structure I could enjoy in Berlin, gives the whole structure incredible stiffness. The only element giving sound in the daily use is the shutter button. No I haven't been throwing the phone... and rather I will not throw it, but I promise that I will put it into water and record the immersing.

You cannot see it on the footage, but on each of the plugs there is a gasket. Exactly like this – not in the hole of the socket, but in the lid. I hope they fulfill their role during immersion in water. Plugs seem to be just a strong and durable part of the smartphone. A much greater concern may raise the tray of a SIM card. Be careful with it. It's easy to lose it and the plastic is... not very reliable. I was surprised with an open jack, but it should not. There is no big problem to create a waterproof jack, although there is the risk of rust-through connectors. I hope I won't take a shower with Xperia Z1 too often, or that somehow Sony engineers find a way to avoid oxidation of connectors.

Do you remember that even if a device from the mass market has a relatively high water resistance, you shouldn't soak it too long, too deep, or in the other water than sweet?

The display dazzles, but you get used to and - if one is accustomed to something much worse than Triluminos – make it dirty with peanut butter or cop. You can see the difference between this and ordinary TFT, the colours are not saturated too bright - as some AMOLED's users complain, while at the same time the displayed colours make a very good impression, making - at least subjectively - that the image takes on depth. You can see it on the video demonstrating the possibility of the matrix – it is also visible in the good pictures.

After a brief contact with a smartphone I know that it will be hard for me to give it back. The pure software, without carrier's overlay, works like a dream. I do not have to, but I can take advantage of cloud-based proposals from Sony in the publication of photos. The cold sleek casing pleasantly tickles my deeply hidden need of luxury and provides an acceptable aesthetic experience. Moreover, this smartphone really fits beautifully into my new lens.

Wait for a review. It will not be fast, but as I treat Xperia Z1 as a potential candidate for my next smartphone it will certainly be accurate. If I find a defect, I will be really disappointed and will report about it immediately.
