HTC 10 – a short guide through its versions

Yesterday we wrote about three versions of HTC 10, but we could not confirm any accurate technical information with the local representative. Today we know about HTC 10 Lifestyle and we know about differences between particular versions of the smartphone.

These are definitely not all versions. Probably the Far East – according to the usual practice of the manufacturer – will receive in future dual-SIM versions, enhanced, enriched and in different price variants, but for now we write about what we have confirmed, leaving the rest in the realm of justified speculation and expectations.

Different memory sizes in HTC 10

Globally, at the moment, we are dealing with two versions of HTC 10 which are different only when it comes to the amount of the flash memory. All European branches, branches in the US, Taiwan and in Japan provide the version with the same powerful CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and a set of memory: 32 GB (around 23 GB left for the user) of ROM + 4 GB of RAM or 64 GB (around 52 GB left for the user) of ROM + 4 GB of RAM. The difference is not big, but significant, which will definitely be reflected in the price.

Differences in supported networks

Here the difference will be known only by knowing the region of sale of HTC 10. Based on the part of the world for which the device will be destined, it will support different ranges of 2G, 3G and 4G networks. All models will support basic frequencies: GSM: 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz. They will all support basic WCDMA frequencies as well: 850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz. And so:

  • Models from Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia will support: - LTE FDD in ranges 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 32, LTE TDD in ranges 38, 40, 41
  • Models from America – in addition they will support CDMA: 800/1900 with EVDO Rev A, AWS, LTE FDD in ranges 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 20, 28, 29, 30
  • The version from Japan - LTE FDD in ranges 1, 3, 5, 7, 13, 17, 19, 21, 26 and LTE TDD in ranges 38, 41.

The third version: HTC 10 Lifestyle in two editions

This version was mentioned in leaks, but no one was certain about anything. This identically looking version is the poorest of them all and – although most specification seems to be similar – there are major differences. In contrast to more expensive variants, HTC 10 Lifestyle works thanks to Snapdragon 652 with a 1.8 GHz clock. It has 64 GB of flash ROM and 3 GB of RAM in the Chinese version and 32 GB of flash ROM and 3 GB of RAM in the Indian version. It has a USB-C socket, but it supports data transfer in the USB 2.0 standard in comparison to the USB 3.1 in models with Snapdragon 820.

The poorer version is offered probably only at the Chinese and Indian HTC website at the moment. A slightly weaker CPU will probably prevent from achieving a full potential of the camera. In the Chinese specification there is, for example, no 8 FPS photo series, Zoe recording, Hyperlapse or recording in slow motion (720p with 120 FPS). But maybe these are unwitting lacks, because we can still record in 4K – theoretically, Snapdragon 652 does not allow this, though with the 12 megapixels matrix results can be different. The Indian HTC shows the same camera options is in the basic version of the smartphone.

And one more detail: the maximum download speed for 4G in HTC 10 Lifestyle is 300 Mb/s. In HTC 10 we can download with the maximum speed of 450 Mb/s.

Be careful when buying on auctions and while shopping in China

We know that a large amount of users buy slightly cheaper second-hand smartphones or in Chinese sale services. It is worth being careful. HTC 10 Lifestyle is still a good smartphone, but receiving it in the moment when we want to buy the basic version can be a great disappointment. We recommend being cautious and prudent during eventual shopping. I did not mention about three colour versions, but this difference seems to be obvious. Basic versions are Carbon Grey and Glacier Silver, but as we can see in the photo there is a third version.

If some of our readers will find any additional differences or even stumble across yet another version of the smartphone – please mention this in comments.
