It is possible that the iconic Motorola RAZR clam shell will come back in a new version. Motorola has filed an interesting patent application.
The application concerns the shape and general construction assumptions of the new telephone. New but clearly reminiscent of the iconic model from years ago. Of course, the RAZR of our time would be a smartphone - and it has a very modern design, using a flexible display.
According to the sketches from the patent application, the new incarnation of RAZR would remain a clam shell - but with a screen filling the entire inner part of the casing. The screen - by nature - would have to be flexible, and the pictures reveal that everything was thought of. To keep the bending curve (not too big), the casing would have the right indentation in the central part. After unfolding it - we would get a normal, touch smartphone with an oblong display, in line with current trends.

The design looks like it does not require the use of flexible printed components or bent batteries, but the pictures suggest that the phone could be a little thicker than the classic design from the past, and certainly both parts of the flap would be even thickness - differently than before. The graphics also do not reveal whether the phone would have an additional screen on the outside of the casing - but if Motorola wanted to necessarily refer to its most popular model - certainly it would have to appear, even as a notification screen, as before.
Unfortunately, from the sketches to the finished product, there is still a long way to go, but we can’t forget about Motorola's relationship with Lenovo, which has been working on flexible screens for a long time and has been displaying functional devices with bent displays two years ago. And quite recently, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing suggested that the Motorola RAZR series could gain the second life..
