The latest leak confirms the presence of a more efficient processor and reveals further changes for the better. It is also possible that the new smartwatch will be more widely available!
Thanks to trusted sources Android Authority we now know that powering Google Pixel Watch next-gen Exynos 9110 processor to replace Qualcomm's Snapdragon W5 Gen 1, with four powerful Arm Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz instead of two 1 .15 GHz Exynos cores, as well as the Adreno 702 graphics chip. Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 is a much newer processor, produced in the 4 nm process known from most of last year's processors, while the Exynos 9100 was created in 2018 and was based on the 2017 introduced 10 nm process. Changing the processor significantly increases not only performance, but also energy efficiency, and the increased battery capacity, now 306 mAh instead of 294 mAh, will help to extend the operation of the smartwatch.
Another significant novelty in Google Watch 2 will be support for Ultra Wideband connectivity. It's not yet confirmed what Google will use the new band for, but you can expect more precise device discovery, electronic car key functions, and seamless streaming of media playback to Google Pixel tablet or Nest speaker, assuming the latter also gets UWB support in the future. It is already known that Ultra Wideband will be seen in Google Pixel 8 Pro.
The display of the new smartwatch will not change much - it will still be a 1.2-inch round OLED screen with a resolution of 384 x 384. The novelty will be that instead of the Chinese company BOE it will be produced by the Korean Samsung Display. Perhaps this change will come with better brightness or more energy-saving solutions, but for now we can only speculate. It is known, however, that the operating system will be Android 13 with the Wear OS 4 overlay, which will make Google Pixel Watch 2 the first smartwatch offering background updates.
It is not yet known where and when the Pixel Watch 2 (currently known by three serial numbers, G4TSL, GC3G8 and GD2WG, as well as codenames Eos and Aurora for LTE and Wi-Fi-only variants) will go on sale. So far, Google Pixel products are mainly available in America and some European countries, but the new Pixel Watch model has made it to the Indian BIS certification database, which suggests that we may see wider availability this time.
